I spent £5 on a 2nd hand PS3 camera and last night tried out head tracking in 3d with some Sony glasses.
Absolutely fantastic. It was the most immersive experience i've had in a game. Using both viewing devices really did feel like i was driving the cars and that was even without plugging my wheel in. It made judging the right point to turn easier. Wish the tracking could be used in seasonal events time and drift trials as i don't see it would take any more ps3 processing power than arcade mode. In races the ps3 was also driving 15 ai driver and cars after all.
A shame it is only in arcade mode. I love the way you can change the angle of reflection in the mirrors by moving left and right or up and down in the seat just like you would in real life. This also means by careful pointing of the camera and how i sit i can change the viewpoint within the car. I was able to see from a higher position above the steering wheel where necessary (eg going over the rise of a hill. Getting the settings right on the camera are important but i got it to a pretty good level of tracking.
The only downside is that sometimes the shiny black 3d glasses ocassionaly make it more difficult for the camera to pick up on turning left and right to look out of the windows. May have been a lack of light on my face though.
I hope these options are pursued further in gt5 and gt6.
Anyone else tried both together?
