LAst night, at my high school's powderpuff game and bonfire, I heard a car go screetching off the road at about 7pm not too far from the school. Didn't think much about it other than someone probably crashed. Heard Mercy Flight coming, loads of ambulances and police cars etc.

Turns out, that a few friends were in that car. One of them was pronounced dead at the scene, the other with life threatening injuries after being ejected from the vehicle for not wearing a seatbelt after they hit a tree and slid 50 feet. Apparently so far there is no known cause of the accident. My thinking it becuase of the bad weather last night and going bit too fast. I don't think alcohol or drugs came into play...at least this time.

The one with life threatening injuries, from what I've been told, was in Intesive Care and passed this morning during surgery from too much internal bleeding and his parents pulled the plug. That's 2 down...

Here's the reports. Picture of the car after.

A one-car accident on Lockport Road, Oakfield, claimed the life of a 21-year-old South Alabama resident and sent another man to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The accident occurred at 7:19 p.m. near the intersection of Bliss Road.

(Name 1) was driving a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix when he lost control of the vehicle for unknown reasons. The car slid sideways, struck a small pine tree and then a larger tree on the driver's side.

(Name 1) was pronounced dead at the scene.

His passenger, 19-year-old (Name 2), of Orchard Street, Oakfield, was apparently ejected from the vehicle.

(Name 2) was transported to ECMC by Mercy Flight with what authorities describe as life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the accident has not been determined.

Responding to the accident were Oakfield and Alabama fire department and Mercy EMS.

The investigation is being conducted by Deputy (Name), Deputy (Name), Deputy (Name) and Investigator (Name).

Assisting at the scene were Deputy (Name) and Trooper (Name).

Theres a few other ones as well. Pretty tough on the school right now. Not much I can do but say be safe on the road and wear your seatbelt. (One of them wasn't.) I edited out names to prtoect their identity, just something I felt was necessary.

Here's what's left of the car.

I'm very sorry to hear about this, it's always unnerving when someone you know dies so young. However, I find it sad to think that they could have been saved so much injury by merely wearing a seatbelt. It's not that hard, really.

Terrible 👎

Fortunately I wasn't in this situation in my life but I see many people here driving very recklessy and without a seatbelt. I mean, is your life so worthless or are you simply too stupid to not take it on? It takes you 2 seconds maybe to fasten it... I'd never drive without a seatbelt, makes me feel unsafety. When I get my first car I want to get a Racing Seat and a set of Takatas not only for style but for safety 👍 many people I know don't think like me and that's pretty sad 👎

I got in the habit when I was pretty young. Now I jump in a car and do it without even realizing it. It sucks though, both were great guys. Such a shame.
