Hey guys. I have recently encountered a problem with my Android phone. The clock display in the notification bar does not update automatically. It is not a hardware issue, as the system clock still updates as normal, but the notification bar clock stops completely, until I either open an app, and auto-rotate, or reboot the device via a battery pull. The reason why I haven't found any suitable answer to my problem by googling is because, I own a MediaTek phone (Prestigio) running stock 4.2.2 Jellybean, meaning there is very little, if any, local support. I would sometimes have the problem when I use Wi-Fi while the phone is plugged in, and then the clock would cease to work, until I rebooted. But now the problem has become more consistent. I have been late for work because alarms have been missed. Please help, anything would be appreciated.

Are there any software updates available for your phone? Also what is exact model name of your phone?

Prestigio PAP 3400. And yes, I have the latest update. I think that that might have caused the issue, but I don't know what to do about it.

So you've got v.1.0.16 firmware installed? If you have back up of all data on phone, have you tried factory resetting it and seeing if that might resolve it?

I've got v1.0.19. Can I downgrade to 1.0.16 via recovery instead of factory resetting it? I've had a bad experience with factory resets, causing bootloops with my previous devices.

It seems they only have V1.0.16 update on their website. I don't think you will be able to downgrade directly to 1.0.16 as it seems only an update file for V1.0.16. You might be able to downgrade to V1.0.11 using following download and instructions: Link and then using updates from following link to get up to V1.0.16: Link

Only advisable if factory reset doesn't fix issue.

Thanks. I'll try that.

Edit: Actually, on second thoughts, I'll first try rebooting into Safe Mode. There might be an app causing trouble.

Do you keep the phone on airplane mode? Every so often the clock might get out of alignment if the phone is left on airplane mode for hours on end. A simple turn off and turn back on would fix the issue.

After a week, it finally managed to correct itself. It turns out that a data toggle app was turning the mobile data on and off without my knowledge. This happened while I was asleep, and using WiFi, which I use almost all the time at home. The clock would freeze when the WiFi and mobile data is active simultaneously. It's a known issue with MediaTek phones, and by uninstalling the problem app, the clock readjusted itself within a week. Thanks to those who tried to help me, it's all good now!

Good to hear, getting first phone powered by MediaTek potentially this week or early next week so if any such issue happens, I will know what to do.

I consider Nexus devices to have bloatware, too, seeing as I don't use half of the Google apps pre-installed. But that's probably just me...

I rooted my nexus and removed some of that but that is like the pre-installed windows bloatware.
You can do much to control it.

You can do the exact same thing with non-Nexus devices too. But yeah, Nexus devices definitely are the best in terms of bloatware.
