Annoying Popups in Chrome

I'm having a problem with popups that freeze my Google Chrome browser and I can't seem to find and delete the culprit. What online program is best to scan my PC without adding new crap on my PC? Only Google Chrome is affected. IE (MSN) is just fine.

The popups are for adserverplus or allmplayerdownloads.com suggesting a "Google Chrome Flash update" (allmplayerdownloads) or a "browser add=on helper" (adserverplus).

I'm running Microsoft Security Essentials and Spy Sweeper. Did both full scans and only Spy Sweeper caught something but it was deleted two days ago.

I recently downloaded a few programs that could be the culprit, but I need them all for now.

BTW, this is what the link for the Flash Update looks like DO NOT CLICK ON THIS LINK!!! = www.allmplayerdownloads.com/flashpl...AAAAAAAAP8AAAACCnYGYgAAAAAA66RIAAAAAAAAAAAAAA There's more but I can't copy and paste since Google Chrome is frozen.

You can put the link in HTML tags so that people won't click on it by mistake. Like this:

HTML:
www.allmplayerdownloads.com/flashplayer/update/?ClickID=WnSAAPIGQgDiMDoBAAAAAMLsTgAAAAAAAgAAAAAAAAAAAP8AAAACCnYGYgAAAAAA66RIAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

If it's popups in Google Chrome, I guess you can try to find the culprit by opening the Chrome programme folder (don't know what it's called, but it should be something like "Google Chrome") and see if there's anything there that looks suspicious. If you have a rough idea about when your computer got infected you can look for the installation date.

I guess you can also try to uninstall Chrome and then install it again?

After searching Google, I think you can conclude that you've got "adware".

This might help, it's for IE9 on Windows 7, but I think it'll work for Chrome too;

It's windows 7. And yes, I've tried doing a search and clicked on that very link but haven't followed what they suggest. I came here first. So far, after running a Malwarebytes Anti-Malware 1.75.0.1300 scan that was suggested in a different thread here, the problem hasn't happened.

I also got rid on a Google Chrome Extension I didn't recognize so that may have done the trick.

Good to know about the link trick. I hope I remember it.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I appreciate the help. 👍
