For the Muscle car guys out there. Do you prefer the stock look,
The mildly modified look or the totally modified look.

I'm torn between the stock look and the mildly modified look. I love the look of the "straight off the assembly line" muscle cars but I can't resist adding a few goodies for looks like rims, tires, ect... Not to mention some suprises under the hood too.

I would like a muscle car that looks fast and is, but can be deceiving, so would I prefer mildly modified or stock? Im none too sure.

The ultimate muscle car: (for me)
1965 Chevy Impala or 1967 Ford Fairlane
Cragar Super Sport rims and BFG Radial T/A's
Big Block 396 for the Chevy, 390 or 428 for the Ford.
Carb by Holley.
Headers with glass pack mufflers
Muncie M-22 "rock crusher" 4 speed. 3:73 posi rear end.
Stock paint with no "frillies"
The Cragars make it look a little tuff, but still a little "sleeper".

For those who want to be seen:
1969 Mustang or Camaro.
Built 302 on either. (I like to handle too).
With mods as above then add "subtle" bright yellow paint, black racing stripes. 4-point roll bar.

In today's world. A 1970 Datsun 510 with a modern SR20-turbo motor.
Eihbach suspension. A nice 15 inch wheel (five spoke), Brembo discs all around. Some sticky Yokohama tires (225-50 R15). Recaro's in the front. A decent stereo. etc.

Depends on the car. But I mostly like slight modified look.

If the car is ment for racing like Pro Stock by all means I want to see that thing modded up to be a real race car.

I got plans for the mustang, like first paint it, then I'm going all out on the engine with all my spare money. I also want a light weight fiber glass cowl hood. So I might mod the out side a we bit. But hey I want a drag car.

I have always liked to suprise the guy next to me.
You should have seen some of the stoplight hole-shots I got with the Porsche-powered VW bus I had...

of course, I'd get stomped when I shifted into third and the engine bogged down to about 1500 RPM.

Thanks for the response guys.

I'm toying with the idea for a new paint job for the Chevelle.
I'm getting one hell of a deal on it...Free!!!! Just the cost of the paint. My new brother in law paints and does a great job on them.
Can't decide whether to keep the stock look or do something a little more radical though.
Anyway it won't happen till late spring so I have lot's of time to decide.

DGB,
My personal preference it to be as fast as possible, while being fairly inconspicuous. Though in Michigan in a big-block SS Chevelle, I suppose inconspicuous is not even vaguely possible.:D

I say keep the Chevell the blue. Or if you really want to be seen "arrest me yellow" works nice.

Gil,
True. It depends on where you go. The further from Detroit it seems the less conspicuous the cars seem to get. There does seem to be a lot more Chevelles surfacing lately around here. Many of them are just a plain Malibu with SS parts and emblems stuck on them.

Streetracer, I actually thought about yellow with black stripes but I'm not sure how much longer that color will remain popular.
There a ton of yellow cars and trucks on the road around here.
You know how style goes, once everyone has it it seems to lose
it's appeal. I have decided to keep the stripes, Now it's just a matter of what color to make them and what color to make the body.
Anyway thanks for the feedback.
Have a great night guys.

Ya I noticed that around here to there aren't many Chevelles. There aren't a lot of muscle cars around here in fact. The only one in my neighboor hood is my neighbors Grand National. There needs to be more.

Also ya I have seen a lot of yellow cars out and about. Mostly Sport Compacts.

i like to keep the stock look (the only i would chenge is hte wheels)

and put anything you can under the hood.

stock look+inside racing mods=look like stocks but race's like the pros.

Remember that old '30s coupe made by Brock Yates, an editor of Car and Driver. He said he was sick of seeing restored vintage cars with 500hp and the stock suspension and 14" rims. He made this 1932 Chevy coupe with a supercharged engine w/500hp and he also had a crazy suspension and brakes. All I know is that it was a '30s coupe that could do 0-60 in under 4.0 seconds, it pulled well over a G on the skidpad, and it stopped in about 110ft. I remember it only weighing like 1,500lbs and the roof had been completely removed.

Ya I think I remember hearing something about the Yates car. But it could have been something else. I read about car to much to remember.
