Logitech is offering me an EX wheel deal, to settle a claim.

I have only heard from one person who ever bought this wheel and he said he had compatibility problems with GT4. I have not heard from him since, so I am asking any of you who have the wheel, if there are any problems between it and GT4?

Cheers,

MasterGT

I think most people here use a DFP MGT. The EX is the one they replaced the DF with, isn't it?

Edit: Just checked the sticky at the top of this forum and the EX is listed under GT4-compatible wheels.

Hi

I'm uisng one. Works fine on GT4. Good thing abouyt the QEX is that it has a USB port and the standard ps port which means u can use it with the older ps2 games and psone games as well as the new games. Works quite fine on PC as well.

The only problem is that you have to use the buttons on the front of the wheel toc ahnge gears instead of the padels in G4 cause u cannot configure the buttons. Trust me though you get used to it.

Did u read my last post or not cause i said u cannot use button configurator with this wheel.

You have to use the 2 silver l2 and r2 buttons on the front of this. There is no fix for this. I asked logitech when i first got the wheel and they even said the same thing.

Hello everyone and Happy Holidays.

O.K. I just started playing GT4 with my Driving Force EX wheel. Seems to work pretty good, but the only thing that bugging me, is that

1)The wheel wobbles pretty violently when going down a straight road. If I let go of it it turns and sways from left to right. Is this normal?

2)My brake pedal does not go all the way up to full meter. It only goes about half way. This happens in GT3 as well. Anyone else experience this?

Please let me know, thanks :)

1) Yes. Have you only used a DS2 til now?

2) Don't know. Experienced it? No, but then I have looked anticipated it to happen, so I haven't looked for it.

1. this is the game, not the wheel
2. thats probably your wheel... i dont have that problem

I own the wheel and there is biggest problem with it than lack of button configuration.

After driving one lap on course, in special option (I forgot what is called) where you can see top speeds on every part of circuit, you cannot use nothing except exit and save. You cannot zoom or move 'circuit-cursor' to see details of driving on track. That's because Zoom and Move are availible only with analog sticks, wich wheel doesn't have it. Shame.

Still Learning: I've read the threads on the G25, DFP, & now the EX. What about the little ol Logitech Driving Force for GT4 withe a Sony PS2 game platform? Is it durable & does it have all the functions to make GT4 as usable as with the standard game controller. I tried that fold up thingie with the wheel & pedals built into a plastic frame with the fold-up seat. Worked great until I snapped the wheel support in half trying to pass the Nurburgring mission. So I'am looking for a cheap alternative where I can use a comfortable chair(the old haunches ain't they use to be) & jury rig a set-up & beat old #34. Then I'll be making my plans for a G25 when the real deal GT5 is released to go with an LG 37'1080p & a 80 GiG PS3 with a playseat. Any one know what a pound of Aluminum cans brings now? I have to figure way a way to support my racing habit.

sucks to be you:sly:out here in Oregon aluminum cans are 5 cents each:)BTW I'm not sure if the Force Feedback is strong with those as they are with the DFP but before I got my DFP I was using a Madcatz Micron and then an MC2 on a wooden fold out table and one of my wooden kitchen chairswith best comfort and luck. I quickly found my DFP to be too much for that. The wheel has so much resistance that when I was in the heat of battle in the gnarly trying to fight me way through a group of cars that I was lifting the whole table up! So ever since that I have ha it clamped to my coffe table while I sit on the couch wuith a couple of pillos under me so as to bnoost my arse up high enough to use the pedals effectively. I have to say its pretty hard on the back too! Then again I am 37 years old and haVE HAD MAJOR BACK SURGERY FOR A MAJOR BLOWOUT IN MY LUMBAR REGION. I have been thinking on making a beefed up lap attachment from wood in the shape of an Ibeam with a two foot 1x4 or 1x6to under my legs and about a one foot section to clamp the wheel to. I figure the two foot sectrion under the legs will give enough of a spread as to stabilize the wheel when in the gnarly.

Thanks for the reply: I am torn man. I don't want get in too deep before gt5 becomes readily available & everyone then finds out what really works & what really doesn't. I can't justify 260.00 ona G25 when there is only one game available that supports the clutch feature. There are some deals on e-bay for reconditioned DFPs for 59.95+29.95 shp. & EXs for 39.95+ 9.95 shp. Most of the DFs are singular sellers of past Xmas gifts to 7 yr. olds. Don't know about dat dar stuff being trustworthy no matter what the deal is. 5 cents a can, thats pretty good. That makes PS3 about 10,000 cans. I'm going to get started on that right away & have a beer.

The DF wheel has the best layout, overall, for any wheel to use with PlayStation games and chances are you will never again see another one like it. The reason for praising this model is that the PS buttons and D-pad are on the wheel rim exactly where they should be, right within easy reach, without having to search for them on a wheel spoke. No other Logitech wheel has had this design since and probably never will again, because their top-end wheels are also PC compatible now. It ain't going to happen.

The combination of the PS button layout and the big "Dumbo-ear" paddles, at a reasonable cost, make this wheel the best bargain going, without exception, if you can find a new one. Its layout will spoil you once you understand its concepts.

Do other, more expensive, wheels have other advantages?
Of course, but none can compare to the DF's great design.

Is it durable & does it have all the functions to make GT4 as usable as with the standard game controller.
The DF wheel works fine with GT3 or GT4, but not earlier versions of GT.

Unfortunately, the quality of the wheel is poor compared to more recent wheels. It has a few durability problems, including a steering column that starts to wiggle once it gets used for a while, and pedals and a D-pad that can break with relative ease. You also don't want to whack the steering column against the turning stops when getting excited. Because you can still buy a few DF wheels new (for around $25), they are to be your first choice over used ones. If you find used ones, check them over very closely, especially for a loose steering column and cracked/split/broken pedals or D-pad. You might find two with which you can make one good wheel, for little money.

The newer EX wheel still uses some of the same DF parts, including the pedal box, but the PS buttons are now on the wheel spokes. At least Logitech improved the durability of the EX's D-pad, even though the paddles are small switches, as with the Pro model.

Although I haven't tried it yet with GT or GT2, the EX wheel is supposed to be the most compatible wheel with all PS and PS2 racing games, and I believe it takes care of one GT3 menu compatibility problem.

Cheers,

MasterGT

Well, the clutch feature does work in GT5:P, there's no logical reason for PD to remove the feature for the US release, or the full game release. Also, it works in the newest Need for Speed game. It actually made a Need for Speed game FUN for me, which blew my mind. Plus, in my opinion, just one game the caliber of GT5 makes it worth spending the cash on a G25.

Having said all that, there's NOTHING wrong with getting a DFP. I had one for a good while, and it's awesome.

and if GT5 needs a rest just plug it in to your PC and give Live For Speed a go :)

Thanks for a clear & complete post. I've got an EX on the way. Reconditioned for 46.00 inc. shp. You, no doubt, are well informed on Logitech Force Feedback wheels in general & though it may be a moot point, I'll ask for your input. A seller on e-bay is\was offering DFPs with "buy it now" prices that were different but still reasonable. Some wheels were 73.95 a header in the ad as being " the rwevised model" . Other DFP's without that header were offered for 59.95. All the wheels were reconditioned by Logitech with a 30 day "DOA" warranty. I e-mailed & asked the seller what the difference was in the wheels that accounted for the price variable in what I thought was the same wheel. He replied that the revised wheel was guaranteed to run with PS2 & PS3. Is this accurate info? Are there some DFPs that won't run on PS3 & some that do. My next wheel upgrade may be a DFP rather than G25. Thanks for your time & the accuracy of your prior post.

As far as Logitech was concerned, the Pro wheel was a PC and PS2 wheel, initially, but since they work fine with the PS3, too, Logitech now includes the PS3/Pro compatibility. I've never heard of any Pro not working with a PS2/3 console. The only obvious model change I remember was to include the GT centre logo on some of them and not on others.

Interestingly, though, they don't list the Pro as PC compatible now, on their web page.
It still works with all of these platforms, of course.

Any non-broken EX, Pro and G25 will all work fine.

Cheers,

MasterGT

Good News! I Think....Here is why. Received my EX 2 days ago 7 tried it out. Didn't care fore the silver button shifter deal so I tried GT3. Paddles R1 & L1 worked ok after configuring for "GT Wheel". Thouht I'd try that out in GT4. Did the same thing in GT4. When going into key configuration, ignore the Force (Luke would say that is impossible to do) & Force Pro. Choose the GT wheel settings & change the default assignements for L1 & R1 prior to choosing them for downshift & upshift. Hope this helps all of the short thumbed EX ers out. The pads are really sweet, light & positive & right where they should be.

Hi there, I'm new with steering wheels, just bought a logitech ex to use with gt5, but I don't seem to get any feedback of any kind. Anyone could tell me how to set it up to get force f.back?

Hey Luvtadrive, would you (or anyone else thats done it) mind going through how you got the paddle shift to work with GT4 for the DF EX? Im probably being thick but i cant seem to get it to work!

Cheers,

Andy

If you have the wheel conected to your PS and to electricity but no force feedback at all, then I think there is some kind of problem with the wheel and you have to return it

Hi All

I have the Ex and I love it, however, for some reason whenever I start my very first race, my wheel decides to re-calibrate itself after the first corner that I take!

It soon goes back to normal after the second corner, but until then, I have to drive down the straights with my wheel turned at 90 degrees!

This happens every single time, so now I have to have a 'free run' before my first race of the night to let the wheel sort itself out...
