Any Solo II folks in here?

Just wondering if anyone here also does any Solo II on a regular basis.

I had a '95 M3 Coupe that I drove in AS, then ESP for 2, almost 3 years solid. It went undefeated in ESP for 2000 at my local SCCA chapter.

In '01 I went to a '98 M3 Sedan that saw some use in BS, but I got it mostly as a baby hauler, so it never got "the treatment." With the kid came a realization that I couldn't justify spending the $ to make a competative Solo II car anymore, so I hung up my helmet.

Well the urge to compete is too strong so I've been eyeing BS again and weighing the option of replacing the M3 with an RX-8 for the '04 season. I've been monitoring the car closely at the various boards and have been eagerly awaiting how it does at a regional level.

For now I'll just have to make do with living vicariously through the tales of others. I'd love to hear from other Solo II drivers here.

I don't autocross...my dad use to in his Opel GT back in the '70s.

An RX-8 would be cool to autocross, but I don't know if it would do better than anything else. And unfortunately, I don't think your local Mazda dealer will let you test it in that way.

i just recently started. i'll be attending the las vegas autocross school on september 11th and 12th, then attend autocross on the 13th.

celicas are the car to drive in GS class, but because of my springs, shocks, and short shifter, i'll be stuck in STS. Maybe i'll get rid of these mods so i can compete in GS.

I've done a few local events in my '95 Neon ACR. In fact, I bought it used in '99 with the intent of really going for it, but as you say family life intrudes a bit much. I'd be in it just for then fun, anyway; I can't say I really like the idea of politics and getting protested because my front air dam is a quarter inch out of whack from that parking bumper I nudged on the way to the event.

But yeah, I've done it a few times and would love to do it more often.

id really like to do an auto X even though my sucks. its still fun ta drive but the auto X season is over here and maybe next year ill have a better to try it out with

MazKid: Actually, the car to have in BS is the S2000. Unfortunately, I need a set of back seats. Which leaves the RX-8 and M3 as the only possible contenders. I've done the M3 thing for years now, and while its the best car I've owned to date, its also getting old. A BMW with more than 70k miles becomes something of a maintanence queen. I could go with a new M3, but that is clearly out-gunned in AS. A 330i ZHP for DS would be nice, but the RX-8 is just as quick and under cuts the ZHP by thousands.

JDMCelica: Cool. I hear STS is becoming a hugely competative class. That's a good thing for the SCCA, as it will attract the new young blood it so needs. Good luck.

Duke: Neons are awesome auto-x cars. When I first started I was amazing at how a good driver in a prep'd DS Neon would kick my ass by 3-4 seconds. But then I got better..
The SRT-4 is the one to watch... look out ITRs.

wana b drifter: I presume you're trying say that you need a better car to auto-x? No way! Auto-x is 90% driver and only 10% car. Give it a shot: there's nothing more satisfying than beating someone while driving a slower car.

Yeah, Im going to use my SRT when I get a little older. I've always liked watching the guys at our club race around. I cant wait to get out there myself...
