I can't get the 4WD drive cars to drift!:banghead: Any tips? I can drift RWD cars pretty good now so I'm trying to learn how to drift with 4WD cars, my fav is the Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 R-Tune.

Hmm, well i am a bit fuzzy since i havn't played for a few weeks (room mate took his ps2 home with him for break) but from what i remember its alot like a normal drift. Just sling it out and then back in hard and gas it pretty good. Helps to use the E-brake, but then again i just started drifting and the mine lancer was my drift car. didn't have real sticky tires on it, just some sports i believe.

It may be impossible but try buying a VCD controller and setting it on 10%. You probably nead sim tires also. Set the TCS on 0. And you might have to get some really high power output say a stage 1 turbo and racing muffler, etc.

I gave you this info not knowing if it works. It may. It may not. I did it off the top of my head and only thought it would work from experience.

Wow forgot about this thread. Hey here is some real advice since i have gotten much better. First a VCD is helpful, but not neccesary. A good soft stock suspension and some decent power (350hp-400max), sport-normal tires and some practice is it. First this really only works for higher speed turns, for the slower ones a VCD is basically a must. Anyway accel towards the corner, lift off faint to the out side then back in and brake on the turn in. Once the car has started side was mash the gas and start some opposite lock. Generally you need to hit the gas at about 50-70* (at a guess) and almost no steering is involved. Practice and you will deffinantly figure it out. I would suggest the Audi A4, racing clutch and fly wheel, fully config diff, light drive shaft, port polish, balance, chip, exaust, sport brakes, light weight 1 and 2, maybe 3 and then a turbo upgrade to take it to the 350-400 area. The key thing is to lift off the gas when turning both on the faint out and then back in with hard stabs on the brakes to loose traction. If i had someplace upload them i could show you some vids of the A4. Still learning the drift in general, but this should get you going in the right direction.

thanks I will try that.
my last post was just too test out what my sig looked like.

good advice jokerman...another good car to drift with is the skyline r32. it behaves very much like a fr car. the thing that is great about the car is that since it behaves much like a rear wheel drive car, it can swing out very easily (if properly tuned) and even if you swing it to a near impossible drifting angle, the front wheels that are still functioning pull it back to prevent it from spinning out. if you want the best effects with this car get the vcd and set it to 10% in the front.

lol i have a Impreza wagon version VI or something like that
i race wit it but i left out the last weight reduction.
apparently, it's really easy to swing out the tail even though i left all settings stock cept TCS, ASM, Ride Height (dropped all the way), and transmission.
it's pretty good at driftin with racing medium-slicks.
might need e-brake here and there for the long turns.

I usu. drop the TCS and ASM, make the front lsd settings low, the AYC high, the VCD either near 40 or 10%. I use abrupt throttle-off, power-overs and FEINT DRIFTS RULE FOR 4WDS! My susp. settings vary on teh car, but they are usually pretty high to either overload them or prevent them from making me spin out if i turn too far in or feint to one side too much.

I also like to use combinations of Sim tires in the back and some better tires in the front.

4WDS are very confusing!

Hey all, my first post here on GT planet so nice to meet you all.

Anyways I have been 4WD drifting for quite some time now, I prefer FR but 4WD can be fun at times. Anyways when I first started drifting 4WD cars I also set the VCD to 10% in the front trying the make the car feel as much as an FR as possible. Well it didn’t work as I expected… while drifting a 4WD car if you “lift” you are most likely to oversteer and spin out even if you only have 10% power to the front wheels and if you hit the gas (depending on the angle) you will also oversteer even if you counter steer. This doesn’t give you very many options, making and very hard to maintain the drift. Now if you set the VCD to 50 50 the you get a much more predictable experience; lift gives oversteer and gas gives under, this also allows gives you much more control if you really get into a high angle drift it will allow you to pull out much more easily. Did I forget to mention the hand brake? Yeah very important for correcting mistakes and quick angle corrections so that you can make it around the corners. As you get better you use the hand brake less and less. Anyways that’s about it… oh I use sim tire so the 50 50 vcd is pretty important but if you are driving stickier tires 30 70 will probably work just fine if not better.

I set the LSD like this:

Initial:
Front: Low
Rear: High
Accel:
Front: Low
Rear: High
Decel:
5 both

That makes oversteer since the first quarter of the corner till the end.
Each car has each level of "high" and "low". (low: between 5 and 15. high: between 40 and 60)
Front: 5 and Rear: 60 makes the heavyest possible oversteer.

The VCD: Depends on the power of the car. Low medium powered: 10-25%; high powered: 35-50%

That's what I do. ;)

good man . even i dont know how to set lsd
10q for u mathemagics ...btw 50% makes the cars 100% 4wd
...for me i prefer 10% ....that make it fr ....;)

for GT4 they should definitely make it so you can turn the VCD to 0% so you could make 4wd cars into FR. That would be awesome.

it would only be realistic :) vieldside and hks make VCD that can convert R33 and up to 100% rear distribution. (doesn't work on an R32, preload on the clutchpack prevents anything less than 10% front distribution)

hmmmmm. i leave VCD on 40% or 45% for my r34 and it drifts like crazy. its one of the cars that i can drift realy well. its pretty different from RWD drift but not too different.
