get a helmet

drive fast

don't be afraid to screw up

don't feel bad when you do screw up

because you will

and people will laugh

but you'll get better

have fun <<-- most important

Respect other drivers, pay attention to the rules and track layout. Work the corners when they ask you too, its the nicest thing you can do and earns lots of respect.
Drive your first couple laps slow to get the feel of the car and the layout. Each lap you can step the speed up a little. Nothing worse than a newb that thinks they can beat everyone right away. Its better to go then it is to go fast and look like an idiot because you hit cones.
Listen to any advice drivers give at the track. Watch them carfully and see how they enter and exit a corner.
You might need a helmet so find out before you go so your not empty handed. Most tracks will have helmets they lend out but thats just gross. :yuck:
Most important--Believe it or not playing the GT series really really helps improve your track times in real life. Teaches you almost everyhing you need to know about cornering, apex entering exit, braking.... Good luck and take pics and video of the event. 👍
edit: I have autocrossed several times in my previous car. I ran with corvettes, vipers, Mustangs and new camaros.

Kewl !! 👍

My Brother-In-Law is a mechanic, so we're thinking thinking of doing a joint venture...picking up used car..about $3000...thinking of an older rx-7 or supra...any other suggestions ?

Get some great race tire slicks. Also if the autross club you are with races in the rain then you will want to have a set ready for that. 👍
Edit: Or just 1 set of tires that will do rain and perform well when its dry out. I only had street tires on but still had fun. I was about 3or4 seconds behind the guys with slicks.

As soon as I get a car I want to get into Autocrossing:tup: First I have to get a basic CAMS licence but it's still cool:D
