Any wheels that allow you to 'feel' the car?

I've got a Logitech Driving Force EX (old PS2 wheel but works with PS3).

In steering settings, my wheel is on the far right of the 5 pictures which means only the 'steering type' parameter is applicable, which I have set to Simulation.

I have all assists off except ABS at 1.

The car itself feels pretty lifeless to drive, there is no 'feel' to it.

Chucking a car back and forth sideways down a straight at high speed has no feel to it. I know a game's not going to replicate some feelings of real drift but it certainly doesn't feel like a 1000kg machine sliding around on the limit.

There is no real feel or any sense of weight to the steering. I tried a fully tuned S13 (premium version) and a mid-tune S. S. version AE86 (standard model).

If I get a better wheel will I actually be able to feel what the car is doing more? What will and what wont be felt?

Cheers.

Does your wheel have Force Feedback? If you want more fight or feel from the wheel I suggest turning that up to around 8 or 9. Mines at 7 though for personal preference.

Yeh, it has Force Feedback. It's not adjustable in GT5 though as far as I can tell.

In the steering settings, for my wheel, only the 'steering type' is applicable to my wheel. When I select the other two options (one being force feedback strength) the picture of the steering wheels at the top no longer has my wheel highlighted, only the two pictured on the left. I've already tried adjusting this setting to make sure but it seems to have no effect on my wheel.

I don't think I want to be 'fighting' the wheel, I just want the car to have some weight to it's feel as at the moment it feels like I'm driving a weightless car, which takes away alot of the feel of real drifting for me. I even tried a 1800kg Corvette and it still felt the same.

I'm not sure if this is something which can be gained by using a good wheel or if it something that can never be experienced playing this game.

I suppose you could get wheel that supports Force Feedback.

Yeh, but I'm trying to ascertain if a better wheel will be the solution to my problem or if it is the game itself that does not accomodate the real feeling of the car's weight. If the latter is the case, no steering wheel will improve this lack of feel I am experiencing and therefore buying another wheel would be pointless.

My current wheel does have Force Feedback, it is just not adjustable in GT5 (I just tried Grid, Dirt2, NFS:Shift and all allowed feedback strength, wheel weight and environmental effect adjustment with my wheel).

what camera angle are you using?

its just force feedback that can replicate the feel of anything steering wise.

what do you think makes a heavy car differs from a light car?
just take away the power steering and you got a heavy car?
sorry but i dont understand what you want to achieve..

I use Bumper Cam (no part of car visible).

No, I do not believe a car's weight is judged by steering resistance (or lack of). I mean the actual perceived feel of weight a car has when driving it. I cannot feel this in GT5. Perhaps it is more a 'seat of pants' experience which therefore wasn't chosen to be replicated in the game's Force Feedback experience.

Something like this feels missing, but it's probably largely forces which are either not felt directly through the steering wheel in real life situtations (and therefore left out for realism, ironically at the loss of realism) or impossible to replicate with the Force Feedback system.

No need to apologize. Thanks for trying..

I think this is the one thing missing in ALL games.....that feeling that you are really there. I doubt we'll get that until they figure out how to Make a Real Matrix!

To be honest, the DFGT lets me feel all I need to know about what my car is doing. The only way to get that "weighty" feel is from g-forces in a real car. Sometimes I think people expect far too much from this game.
