Anybody doing non-max tunes?

Lately I have found a lot of fun in GT5 playing with odd, quirky, different cars. Not just slapping all parts on them and going for the fastest lap time.

After making it to level 25 winning most races by over a minute, I just kind of shifted my priorities.

Anywho... I like to dial a bit more neutral handling into all of my cars. The Ferrari F40 is about perfect for my style of driving. Every tune I find here has the ride height slammed, and talks about every power adder and weight reduction. I tend to do air filter, catalytic converter and ECU if anything.

Are there any tuners out there doing the same?

For the list of cars I have (and to get an idea of my quirky ones) check this link:

Thanks in advance!

While power adding and weight reduction is not necessary, slamming the ride height almost always is. You can't make cars handle properly when it rocks like a boat. Cars also look horrible with 100mm gap between tyre and fender.

Boo!!!! Go big or go home.

Tried it, got bored with it. What's the point if you beat the competition by 1 minute or 1 hour? I like a close race. I also switched to using manual transmission, and often use cockpit views with no dash/map.

Just the joy of driving rather than battering the competition.

I think the Golf Ring challenge is what changed my mind. I decided to do it with a MK1 GTI with as little mods as possible. Probably the most fun I have had so far with the game.

I have fiddled with the tuning myself and read the PDF guides. I can get them close, but still really have no idea.

I like to use the Kerb as a roll out area if I overshoot a corner, or to cut the apexes on an S. Slammed ride height with ultra stiff suspension turns those little bumps into ramps! Car's have suspension for a reason. Lowering and stiffening to the extreme basically defeats the purpose. If I want that I drive the kart :)

on the seasonal event time trial at deep forest every one was using the Amemiyasparadrink RX-7. i started asking around for what the top guys were using for tuning and they recommended bumping ride height up to the max. i had to stop and question if they meant up or down but sure enough they meant raise it up and it shaved time. still perplexed!

See sig. We generally do change quite a lot on the car but only in rare cases do we go anything resembling overboard, and even then... It's always done with some purpose in mind, be it speed or enjoyment.

And yes, a few are slammed. Others aren't, and with good reason.

Give a man a tune and he's happy for a day, teach a man to tune and he's happy for life.

There was a time when I thought tuning was the thing to do and how to come to this forum and be a tune nerd... but once you realize no tune fits every and all situations you'll ever put a car in, not to mention driving style, and input (pad, wheel) variation and much of this is repetitive exercise in futility. Comes down to power and weight in the end, everything else in between is trivial and a 1% factor. IMO, just go read the tune guides and fiddle with your cars until your happy, then reset them and do it all over again.

Did that, hit a few walls (not literally). Maybe I will post up a couple specific questions in a separate thread. I enjoy tuning, and the guides helped quite a bit, but there is still more to be learned. Currently I do self-tune, but the reason for this post is to give me a better starting point to tweak from.

I will give a few a try next time I fire up the game. Thanks!

I could use the exact same words - thus quoted.
