GODDDD!!! nobody swims here???? WOW, anyway, I swim too, it's my life, my passion, my job (part time though) , my favorite pastime!! I'm a FISH, and looov swimming the waters of the beach that I protect...Long Beach, NY

CiAo....

I swim as well! Currently there are two threads on the subject of swimming, one here and the other in the Hobbies forum...

There has gotta be more people swimming in this forum! I mean, we all can't be playing GT every day, all day to the exclusion of everything! (apart from GT).

I am a lifeguard as well, and you do see quite a varity of people swimming to keep fit, all shapes and sizes...

Anyway...there has gotta be more than four people who swim! I don't care if you can only doggy paddle one width, you're a swimmer.

Not that good a one, but you're still a swimmer. :)

Anyone?

Yeah well, i view Swimming as a sport, rather than a hobby.

Would be nice if a moderator would merge the two together into this...:)

No merging?

*sigh*...

Is it me, or is swimming is such an unpopular sport in gtplanet? I presume that me and OzzyGt managed to scare away everyone who even DIPS their toe in the local swimming pools?

If so, allow me to apologise. Sorry.

Does anyone here (apart from me and OzzyGT) know their Frontcrawl to their Butterfly? Can anyone do it? Does anyone know what "drill" is?

The great sport of swimming shouldn't be sidelined by the popular ground sports of football and others..in my opinion.

I'm crap at breaststroke, I prefer backstroke to anything else, I can swin around 2000M on my back :)

I do swim, I tend to breast stroke more than back stroke, but don't go swimming that often. I usually just do x number of lenths in the lanes.

I do find that people who swim to keep generally fit has a higher tendancy to do breastroke, even if they are not that good at the stroke itself.

When i do my training, we have half the pool to the squad, and the other half for members of the public to do their fitness swimming or to have a "swim". Some of the members of the public there has the ability to do a breastroke kick that goes nearly half into my lane....therefore evasive action is required!

Not that i'm complaining (too much).

Freestyle is best for staminia and all around toning, as it is one of the easiest strokes to do (once you have the muscle co-ordination and the timing correct) and you can really motor along, counting off the lengths like they didn't exist (pretty much).

Butterfly, for those who can do it, are very good for strength and a bit of power! It's hard to get the skills to do it, as it needs strong shoulder muscles and a strong core muscles (the deep muscles inside your abs..they help the stabilisation of the body) and strong legs as well. But it is a efficent way of making oneself extremely tired...:D

More comments please about anyone that swims and whether they like/hate it. And why. Please?

Butterfly is a pain in the arse. So much effort for so little distance, and my hair just ends smashing into my eyes (I'm not wearing a gay swim cap).

I only really swim if I go down to the surf beach. So it's a lot of breaststroke because freestyle is too tiring for long periods of time. I don't swim in pools, too many fat people and 3 year olds running around. Also Chlorine = 👎

I get you with the butterfly bit. It's kinda hard, but i view it as challenging thing to do basically. I presume you have a lot of hair? "Hair ends up smashing into my eyes"? Alternatively wear a swimming goggles?

"Too many fat people and 3 years old.." Yeah, that's true up here in England. The strange thing is, most people just seem to swim up and down thinking that it will help them to lose weight...well it does at first then it stops. Variances of pace helps to lose weight faster. Oh well, can't preach to everyone about that.

Swimming caps aren't gay....(unless they are bright pink..)

Exactly, they ain't gay...they're slick ;)

Butterfly is my best stroke as a matter of fact. I used to hate it because I only advanced 2-3 meters on 2 strokes, but I learned a more propper way of moving your arms...you kinda have to draw the siluette of a women when you do it. Also the second kick is the most important one.

Submerged, how is it going so far? I kinda retired now. I work, study and my school doesn;t even have a swim team :indiff:

Swim for life!

Ciao!

They certainly aren't gay, swimming caps! I have quite a few...all with club names and logos on them.

Butterfly, surprisingly at the moment is my strongest stroke for sprints distances to 100 metres. 200 metres, it's backstroke. *Sigh*. Seems that when i get older, the more sprint orientated i become!

Well, generally because i'm training less due to University workload becoming a real b*tch to do at times.

Awww man! I feel for you with your school not having a swim team at all! I did have a college that didn't have a swim team, but i was still training with a swimming club, so it didn't really matter. However as i've already mentioned that University is becoming a b*tch to do at times, swimming is taking the back-burner for now.

...Unfortunately, my swimming club loves me....a lot for my dedication to the sport and assumes that I will still be training at all times and still expect me to do very good times....! Matey, that's not quite going to happen! (I mean, with my performance being good for them..)

However, there is a bit of a family crisis at the moment, so swimming is now definately on the back burner for a bit. Grandad has just had an operation to remove a part of the bowel to prevent cancer spreading, but developed complications. Too much lactic acid apparently.

Woah, three paragraphs repeating the same message in three different ways! Sorry, kinda a bit "Not there"....

Ozzy, i certainly agree with your description of a butterfly pull there! It helps if you really imagine stroking a fine lady there.....;). However when i first started training, i hated it for the same reason as you mentioned. I did find that when i started doing weight training, my fly stroke was able to get better, all because i had the stroke technique there, but not the musclar endurance there. I've not done any weights for a while *laziness for now*, but i'm still improving when i've trained on fly. I think i now have the muscle memory to last a lifetime....I dearly hope so!

Swim for life!

Submerged.

Damn I just got in the pool today after not swimming for like 2 months. My times dramatically decreased and I even hard time doing the flip turn from backstroke - to - breaststroke.

You guys know it is legal to do that one right? A lot of people think you can only touch the wall with both hands and that's it.

Anyway, i'm uber disspaointed but I know that if I start swimming daily once again, I'll be at my best in 1 or two months.

Ciao!
