Anyone Else Trying This?

Hello, NEW Member here. I don't yet own a PS3 & won't bother unless GT5 gets good reviews from all of you here! Have recently fired up the old PS2 however & am trying something new (for ME at least) in an attempt to get ready for GT5. I've always driven "Bumper-Cam" through GT3 & GT4 while lamenting the lack of a "Cockpit-Cam". Now that it seems GT5 will offer the "Inside View" I've been using the "Roof-Cam" in GT4 to help acclimate myself to a different vantage point. I must say that I like it overall but sorely miss the Rear-View Mirror feature. Any comments?

Hi there and welcome to GTPlanet. You don't have to worry about the rear view mirror because there are side and rear mirrors in the "Inside View"

I always use the roof cam and cant wait for GT5 and its fancy HD cockpit view

Whenever I use the roof cam it's usually driving an open-top prototype. I usually miss the rear view though and go back to the bumper cam. I'd like the roof cam a lot more if it was a base-of-the-windshield, back-of-the-hood -type cam.

I always felt bumper cam had more in common with cockpit than roof cam. I think cockpit view is easily the best though, i swapped from the chase view in GT5P a few weeks ago and i've never went back. I can be much more precise with my steering thanks to seeing the wheel infront of me and how much it turns in relation to the analogue stick. I can also perfect my lines, and where to turn in on each corner. With 3rd person i always used to turn in slightly early and lose seconds off my laptimes. With cockpit view i have no problem.

It also gives you a little more awareness of your cars behaviour then both bumper and roofcam. You can sort of see when the car is on the edge. Even with 3rd person view you can't. Also, the engine sounds in cokcpit view are much clearer, so gear changing is easier :D

I would advise either going out and buying a PS3 with prologue in advance to get used to it. Otherwise just wait til GT5. I don't think GT4 is going to be of much help if yo uare already experienced with other racing titles. GT4 is as different to GT prologue as most other racing titles.

My honest opinion is that you should stick with bumper cam and then switch to cockpit view when/if you get the game. Don't bother with roofcam.

GT5P is a good game. The advanced car-physics in Professional mode + the cockpit view (each one different from car to car) made it good enough for me to buy a PS3. THe Ai is better, too. But GT5P is missing alot of stuff we've come to expect. I was disappointed I couldn't immediately tune, for instance.

I like the roof cam, personally. But as others have said, the lack of mirrors (and therefore the inability to always see what's happening behind without "looking back") can be a problem. But at least the point of view when using roof-cam is at a similar position to being in a cockpit. The only difference is roof cam is higher than being inside the cockpit, and it's also not offset like a cockpit cam is.

I personally use roof cam 80% of the time. I switch to bumper occasionally (especially if I make it into 1st place). I also switch to 3rd-person at times, like if traffic around me is heavy and I need to drive without bumping excessively into others, but 3rd-person view is the most difficult to use, I've found.

Off-topic now, sorta. I've been doing some GT2 racing lately. 3rd-person is actually best in this game for me; makes it easiest to see what's going on around me. Perhaps it's due to the fact that the rubberband Ai in this game tend to swarm all around you like a pack of wildebeests.. :ouch:

I've occasionally tried the roof camera, and I do think it's closer to the cockpit view that GT4 lacks than is the bumper camera. It's particularly accurate in the case of the FGT. But, as several people have noted in this thread, the lack of a rearview mirror is a major shortcoming. More importantly to me, though, that vantage point makes me feel very disconnected from the road, and I'm really slow when I try to use it. So I inevitably revert to the bumper camera with which I've become accustomed to driving in GT4, having selected it as the easiest to use when I first got the game.

THANKS ALL!
@ Austin343:
I couldn't agree more. I like the fact that you can see traffic much better BUT I'm also noticeably slower than with Bumper Cam. I'm 99% sure I had Cockpit Cam with the original WRC Game & really liked it. Will have to see if I can find the game & try it again. Even with the bad physics it may be better practice for GT5 than GT4's Roof Cam. Thanks again.
