i'm thinking about getting a bike, pretty much just for riding around town. i found this http://www.cellbikes.com.au/product.php?id=56 which is roughly how much i want to spend.
i'm a little heavy at the moment, 125kg's and 6'2, so i thought a mountain bike like this with the duel suspension might be the right idea.

just wondering if anyone has heard of these bikes or owns one, and wether they are worth getting? or if anyone knows of a similar bike around the same price, available in australia your opinion would be very helpfull :)

If you're not riding off road, then a full suspension setup is a waste of money and will be extra weight for you to move along the road. You'll probably also lose a lot of power to the suspension bobbing up and down when you try to accelerate.

If all you want to do is ride around the streets getting from A to B then that bike should do you fine. I personally havn't heard of cell before and im a pretty keen mountain biker. There are a few things which steer me away from the bike to be honest such as the build quality of the frame, it doesn't look as sturdy as alot of other bikes and it looks like it weighs a ton! not good if your climbing alot of hills on it. Seeing as im from England im not sure what the equivalent bikes to suggest but i think the best bit of advice i can give is to find your local bike shop (a reputable one) and have a chat to them. They will see what your needs are and point you int he right direction. You may pay a little more but you will probably end up with a bike that will last you a long time.

Also the last bike i know that had "zoom" suspension forks ended up as a bent frame with broken forks.......

Like i say though, for road use i cant see this bike being a problem but i personally would walk away from it. Im sure you can get budget Specialized and GT bikes which will do the same job but be infinitely better.

Hope this helps

Spec....

not much chance of me hitting any serious trails yet :) i'm still way too unfit, just thought if i was getting a bike something with suspention might last a little longer. there are quite a few bike shops around here so i might go check them out.
thanks for the advice.

Bike suspension = arms and legs. Anything more is just extra weight, and if you're a heavy guy, like I was when I started riding, you don't want shocks, bullbars or any of that other fanch shmancy stuff. Just get a nice, light frame with good lightweight alloy wheels and go out and ride. :) The absence of active suspension on a bike doesn't make it fall to pieces in a heartbeat... I've had bikes with no suspension to speak of last for years. :)
