Not sure than too many people are concerned but here it is from leftlanenews.com

"A widening corruption investigation into Hyundai could lead the automaker to collapse, according to the Korea Times. On Friday, two people including the former deputy governor of the state-run Korea Development Bank were reportedly taken into custody for having taken bribes to write off bad debt of Hyundai affiliates amounting to some 55 billion won in 2001, the newspaper reports. The report said observers fear “the second largest business group in Korea may be driven into collapse by this investigation on the verge of expanding.” "

So who is going to buy out Hyundai? (IF it even comes to that)

Well that's kind of sad really, Hyundai has started to produce some good cars. I hope Toyota, Renault/Nissan, VAG, or even Ford buys them out. It's an untouched goldmine I think...

Thats crazy, it'd be kind of sad to think of a collapse like that would happen, especially to its thousands upon thousands of workers. After everything they accomplished lately, I think I can smell a buy out from another company coming soon.

Wow, and Hyundai was just starting to make some cars that were worth while. But what about all the other stuff they make? Like ships?

The automotive part will be the sellout--they make so much more money in semiconductors and memory that it wouldn't dent them.

Too bad GM doesnt have any spare cash, 'cause Hyundai would be an awesome investment... Ohh wait, that would give them a monopoly in the Korean market (they do own Daewoo). I would bet on DCX buying them, oh wait, they don't have any money either... Ford? Probably not...

I hope Hyundai fixes their problems, because I want to see them do well. The new Sonata, Rio, Santa Fe, Optima, Azera, etc. are all awesome cars and trucks and do the Hyundai/Kia alliance really well in a Toyota-dominated market.

Hyundai heavy industries is now a seperate company to Hyundai motors according to discovey channel.

maybe some korean company would take over
consider over 80% korean buy domestic cars
(this is my guess based on my latest traveling in korea)
I guess some company in korea rich enough to buy it off
or maybe some freaking rich chinaman?

This is a hard hit for the Koreans. Hyundai, along with Samsung are one of the most promising corporations from South Korea. Just when you thought they were getting over the huge cloning scandal with their most prominent scientist.....

Since I admire Hyundai's recent efforts, I want to just forgive them and move on, but the allegation(or is it proven already?) sounds pretty nasty. It will be interesting to see how this'll play out.

I don't doubt that some private group in Korea or even the government would try to bail them out. Hyundai is such a big part of Korean industry, it's hard to imagine the government stepping back and letting it fall... Oops, wait, deja vu... Ford and GM.... :ouch:

Well the Discovery Channel is pretty reliable so I'll accept that.

sonofa...

just when there was someone out there to break up the Japanese monopoly of the regular car market, up comes multi-billion dollar corruption. And they just sank a billion (?) into a factory over here.

okay...GM, keep your paws offa this one! ya allready picked up what's left of Daewoo, and gave it to Suzuki. Leave well enough alone.

I hope someone saves Hyundai.

I also hope it doesn't affect sister company Kia.

Since I'm a HUGE fan of Samsung electronics & appliances I say let them buy it out. I'd drool over a special "Samsung Tiburon". Mwuahahaha! :sly:

[/mindless babble]

Not 100% on this, but I don't think Samsung Electronics and the rest of the group is related to Samsung Motors.

Maybe... who knows? There are weirder brand names out there selling rebadged Nissans.

I still find it intriguing that the good old B13 Sentra is being sold as a Tsuru.

They aren't just in the same way Hyundai isn't between thier companies. Still, I like Samsung and would want to see some attempts at a decent mass produced car from them.

I just read that Authorities has asked the court for an warrant to arrest the Hyundai's Chairman! :scared: This is serious stuff.

Edit: And his son, President of Kia, might be indicted.

Noo, the Hyundai Coupe must not die!!

It'll be shame if they colapse, but frankly I'm more worried about the state of the British car industry at the moment to give much of a damn.

If GM was smart they'd jump on this, Kia and Hyundai are fast growing cars and GM could use that to their advantage. Actually any company that buys them will get a great company with a ton of potential.

The British are more than good enough already........Hyundai, best if it "DIES".
here there are way too many hyundai dealers, poor old japanese cant compete

I bet the chinese will be bidding for Hyundai if it does go down. Dont think any of the germans would touch it though. Maybe toyota would buy it.
