Hi.

Recently I tried to access an AOL.co.uk email address, however I had forgot the password.

No big deal right? I click the "Forgot my password" prompt and enter email and captcha code only to be prompted to call a service line.

This problem is persistent, and really bloody annoying, and having searched around for a bit to find no solution or possible cause, I decided to come here to ask if someone else has has this problem and how did they solve it?

Thanks.

What happened when you called the service line?

I haven't, I believe it's shut right now.

Edit: it's not, actually. Will try soon.

Edit 2: "Nothing we can do" sums up the whole call...

How long had it been since you used the account?

My father-in-law had a hotmail account, that was so old (it's actually his first name initial and last name, no numbers)

aka jdoe@hotmail.com

But a friend set it up for him over 10 years ago, so the password reset questions he didn't remember and we tried all the obvious answers.

He only checks his email from his computer at home. So me, being IT Admin, get in touch with hotmail about how can we reset his password. What proof do I need.

I tried providing them the mac address of my router and cable modem, and even talked to my ISP and got my history of wan ip address.

That's not enough.

Luckily he used his email and were able to provide info on what was in his email account.

Last few emails, who they were from and such.

After providing some email that he had, they reset the password for me.

I think I literally only set it up for PSN so... 2 years maybe? Not too long so I might retry tomorrow.
