As a depressed young adult, I learn that sometimes in life, you have to do for self. And unfortunately, I've kind of not really been trusted a lot. I feel that even though I do what I can in school and in life, that I'm not seriously honored or respected. Does it seem sometimes like you try to do what you can, but never get any positive feedback? Or do you try to stand out and get things done, but sidelined with disrespect, or not enough respect?

GTPlanet, this topic is for you. Do you think some people often don't get the proper amount of respect for what people do? Not enough respect? No respect at all? Reply now. Perhaps we can discuss what efforts actually deserve respect, and even if a person tries as hard as they can but comes up short, that person should be honored regardless. But some people don't care or don't care enough. What are your opinions on appreciating peoples' efforts, even if they are substantial ones at best?

Respect is earned not given.

Courtesy should be given freely to all until they do something that makes them not worthy of courtesy. But respect should be paid only to those who earn it by skill, intelligence, ability, etc. There's a reason why the term is "pay your respects" to someone.
