Are changes coming to the social groups?

I have searched and nothing conclusive came of my question in regards to the future of our social groups here on GTPlanet.
I have heard multiple things from many people stating that a huge and complex overhaul is coming to the groups in the near future all the way to rumors of their termination entirely.
I would just like to know for sure what is going on since I frequent social groups quite a bit and have been wondering for some time.

Again, I do apologise if I could have done a tad better searching.

I mean, Jordan said changes were supposed to happen this past summer.

He said "Sometime this year, most likely in the summer". I wouldn't hold him to a strict timeline based on just that.

I understand he's a very busy man, but I was just unsure why there hasn't been an update as to what's happening since then.

Yes, my previous comments still apply; social groups will be removed for the site in the next major update to GTPlanet.

Once again, however, there will be plenty of warning before that happens, and communicating with a group of people will be much easier with the tools that will replace Social Groups. Until then, just use the groups normally and don't worry about it.

Jordan loves Food - he said so in his interview with Tom. So I'm thinking the Food Thread will surely be safe.
He also mentioned that the Site would be gearing up for more 'Social Networking' which makes sense, since no Game lasts forever. The Social Networking part, whether connected with the GT Series or any other Games of similar genre, is an important part of the Site, and I'm sure that whatever he presents eventually would not only provide ease of Game Info Retrieval but also enhance the navigation, use, and social benefits of the Site.
