Are Fanatec LC pedals really this touchy?

So I’ve upgraded from Thrustmaster 3PM pedals to Fanatec Load Cell pedals. The load cell has very, very, very little travel distance and almost any pressure at all gives me 100% brake force. Is this normal, do I just need to get used to it?

This may be obvious, but did you calibrate them?

I didn’t like it either. I took the little sponge thing out the standard brake pedal and replaced a couple of the elastomers with it. Gave me just the right amount of travel.

The pressure, you can fix via calibration, mine came set by default to something stupidly low.
The pedal travel, that's how it is, and I didn't like it either, it's not even remotely realistic. There are various ways to fix this, one is what NikNakTobasco mentioned, another is 3drap elastomers (3drap lists them on ebay with worldwide shipping, expensive but works), I have seen some people mention various other DIY mods as well.

I guarantee I’m less handy than you. If I can do it anyone can! The 3drap.it YouTube has a video how to do it but it takes a bit more brute force than they show it. Especially the first time. There’s no screws or anything like that. The spring stack (?) comes out by hand. I pressed the pedal as hard as I could with one hand and then with the other squeezed the stack as tight as possible so when the pedal comes up the stack stays compressed and then you can slide it up and out. Keep it tight as the bits can fly out when the tension is released. To put it back in, put the metal pole bit into the bottom hole and then squeeze it as much as you can and slide it down.

This bit is very important to remember taking it out and putting it back. There’s little black nubs at the top of the stack either side. These aren’t glued or anything they come off. Don’t lose them!

Let me know if you need any help or photos or anything as it’s hard to explain.

I was very apprehensive as I’m hopeless at DiY type stuff but it was Most definitely worth doing though. The default setup is absurd imo. Cynical side of me said they made it like this so you consider buying the v3s that do have adjustable travel.

FWIMBW those moving from Logitech-style brake pedals to LC's must bear in mind that the latter type measures pressure, not travel.

you can adjust the pressure in fanatec app. Not sure what factory is.
but load cells work on pressure and IMO going to 3drap insert is a bad move, it basically makes the brake travel morel like ****** pedals when the reality is you can learn linear pressure easier than a progressive pressure+travel the 3drap provides. IMO even though I know people like rory do it socks, shoes with round bottoms(heels) seem to be best for me to be consistent with the load cell.

Just to be clear I tried many combos of the 3drap insert and eventually settled back on the stock Fanatec bushing 65 percent of Brake force most of the time. I will turn up on the brake force on some car that are very sketchy to brake so my inputs will be less, the most recently I did this was the USA Porsche Cup with the carrera RS. With the 3drap insert you can find say 50 percent easier but it will make finding small increments harder in the long run, even if it makes it more user friendly at first.

I am finding the load cell extremely useful this week at Brands where some turn I am barely dragging it. Hawthorn I am basically using roughly 5 percent effort, in paddock hill I am using 60 percent and then 1 to 10 percent till apex, and at druids and Surtees I am able to basically keep 1-5 percent till I am on the gas to keep the nose of the car down, even overlapping brake and throttle effort in druids to stop wheel spin in the Swift.

Thanks for all the replies. After almost a year I am completely used to the load cell pedals and I struggle to go back the the Thrustmaster brake pedal. It’s all pressure based braking and it took about 3 weeks until I was more comfortable with the LC over the regular.

I'm making this transition now from TLCMs to CSLs with loadcell.

And yes it's a better technical system it's poor on feel. I've done millions of miles in cars, moving a brake pedal 2cm max doesn't "feel" natural.

I'm going to get the mod as my left foot fidelity is measured in inches no tiny milimeters.

But each to their own of course

If you can stick with it, the elastomers do soften a bit and it also takes time to develop the muscle memory. I can easily trail brake with mine.

I went back to using all the original elastomers after a couple of months as the 3drap ones started to feel too soft.
