Are online events still able?

Yeah, as far as I know. I don't play 5 anymore, but I'm pretty sure the news section here in the forums gives updates on it.

Sorry but I read your post and it reminded me of something I saw on the net a while ago.

What exactly is going 'down' in May? Is it just hosted online events, or all online functionality? Is it for GT6 too?

All online functions in gt5 will stop, if I understand correctly.

Why...?

I could fire up F1: CE from nearly 10 years ago and I'm pretty sure online is still their (albeit with almost no players).
Because, from my understanding, Polyphony Digital is playing some sort of "Flush them out" card, they're trying to increase game sales by lowering the price, and giving them some incentive (No more online play) to jump over. A fairly smart buisness move, but still cruel.

I kinda get that. No two GT games have been so similar - GT1 to GT2 was massive, same with GT3 to GT4 and especially GT4 to GT5. GT5 and GT6 could be confused as the same game to a novice player.

I was definitely expecting more out of the game, since there was such a huge time gap, but to be honest, the new physics engine and the extra muscle cars, plus all cars availible at any time are worth the price for me. All the old muscle cars had to be in the ucd, and those are what I want. I never even saw the '54 corvette in gt5, and that's one of my favorite cars.

I totally get you.

I cant really blame Polophony tbh, I was 100% sure they maxed out what they could do on the PS3. I was surprised they could cram in anything more for GT6 - which is why I was expecting it on PS4.

For the next game though, I do not want a revamped career mode - I NEED a totally new, ground up, career mode. I want rivalries, I want scenarios, I NEED something to keep the game alive. Obviously, the physics and racing is what the game mainly focuses on - having some non-hardcore elements (rivalries, scenarios, non-racing additions that create realism) would be well received and even though I'm a hardcore racer I'd love it!

It just feels a bit stale, if you get me. Though dont take what I'm saying for granted, I do not own GT6 (sold PS3) but I've played many, many hours at a friends house.

Or maybe they have no more place for additional servers. Or they're trying to expand GT6 online functionality. Same thing was with the GT5P too.

I see the career mode as a pointless grind to get to the fun part: online. If they let me choose whatever car I wanted, tune it to my liking, and race it anytime, it'd be my dream game. Now if the career mode was more than a bunch of drunk drivers parading around a track while I'm trying to pass, maybe it'd be fun.

That's also a possibility, and would also explain why they're shutting them down so soon. Normally, companies don't do that. I personally think, if you look at them dropping the price and cutting the GT5 servers, it seems as though they're trying to lure in the remainder of gt5.
