Before starting this thread, I used the search function and could not find a similar thread, so if I am re-hashing an old topic, or just creating another stupid, inane thread, then hopefully a moderator will come to the rescue and delete this thread.

However, as I checked out the "follow :gtplanet: on Twitter" link that is now at the top of the GTPlanet forums page, I noticed that one of GTPlanets Twitter followers is none other than Kimi Raikkonen. This reminded me of something I have often wondered, are there real professional drivers among us here at GTPlanet who play GT5P and take part in the time trials and online events?

Do any of you ever wonder the same thing? I'm not necessarily talking about big name drivers, like Kimi, but who knows? Reportedly, some drivers such as WRC champion Sebastian Loeb have used GT games to practice for events on unfamiliar tracks, so I don't think the idea is as far-fetched as it may seem. After all, the GT franchise is hugely popular worldwide and widely proclaimed as one of the most accurate driving simulators available.

Any thoughts?

You've probably been asked this question before, but how does driving in GT5 with a racing wheel compare to real life racing? Is the car handling similar?

I'm not so sure about GT5P,but one time I saw a show where Dale Earnhardt Jr. and some of his Nascar racing friends play Nascar '09,and they do play it on-line.So for you guys who own Nascar '09,who knows, you may have or maybe will play against Dale Jr. or some Nascar guys some day.

Apologize for veering off the main question about playing GTP5.

Not sure about GT5P but I'd say some might play iRacing. You always hear about a number of real life race drivers playing that. Also pretty sure I saw a press conference recently with Dale Earnhardt Jr about a Nascar & iRacing partnership so who knows.

Is it the real Kimi Raikkonen?

Curses - my real identity has been revealed! It turns out 80Y is not the 17 year old student from Sydney everyone THOUGHT he was - but Y08, a 29 year old race driver from Ethiopia! [dun dun dunnnnnn]

(Jokes of course)

It would be pretty cool to play GT after experiancing a proper race car, but I think all it would do would to bring out the negatives of the physics. If theres someone who plays PAL in the southern hemisphere who is a race driver - contact me. I want to see how I measure up 👍

Pretty sure it is, but you can check for yourself.

I could be wrong, but I think it is the real Raikkonen.

I doubht it's the REAL Kimi Raikkonen. From what I've heard, Kimi isn't much of a fan of using the F1 training simulators, so I doubht he is into GT5P either  I could be wrong though...

I know there are quite a few pro's who play Rfactor though. Jacque Villeneuve and Anthony Davidson come to mind 👍

Oh yeah, I don't think Kimi actually plays GT5P, I was just saying that I think he really is a GTPlanet follower on Twitter.

I think he spends too much time partying to do much sim racing

i had experience at the austrian ford fiesta cup as a test driver.

thats the reason why i can handle the heel/toe technique at gt5p :).

The very fastest people I have ever raced online in GT5P don't even drive or own cars in real life.:scared::crazy::ill:

I'm not saying that means anything one way or the other, I'm just astounded by it!👍

I'm not a pro driver but I do race almost every weekend in the summer months. You are spot on about the physics negatives, my biggest gripe (besides the rediculous drafting) is the S and N tires seem to not model fore/aft weight transfer AT ALL. This is painfully most obvious in the lower hp mid-engine cars (elise/ NSX/ clio) which *should* have absolutely no problem what so ever laying down power in any gear but first on S tires. My stock Elise in second gear will just barely break the rear loose on good street tires in heavy rain, just barely. In the dry it just won't happen unless you get in some gravel or something.
Although I will say pro physics is much much better than GT4.

Anthony Davidson does play GT5p and I have raced him online. He doesn't play it much though, as we play rFactor.

As timeattack said, Ant and me race in a league with J.Villeneuve and various other people involved in motorsport.

Ant's not impressed with the physics/realism of GT5p, but if he had enough time to play both rFactor and GT5p (like me) then I'm sure he'd enjoy both as, both games have equally enjoyable qualities, just for different reasons.

I'm guessing no one's heard of Anthony Davidson though :D

(p.s. he's nearly always faster at GT5p than me and much faster at rFactor, although I did snatch a pole off of him this Monday gone at Gellerasen in the Skoda's lol)

Thanks for that information RPM 👍
Anthony Davidson was the 3rd car/Friday test driver for Honda a few years ago in F1 if I am not mistaken wasn't he? I seem to remember he was quite quick too, and may have even driven full time at one point. I apologize if I have my facts mixed up :guilty: That's great to know :)

So he doesn't think too highly of GT5P's physics? That's very interesting.
It's good to hear the opinion of an actual real life (fast) driver on that subject.
I guess that's one of the main reasons I started this thread as a matter of fact, just
curiosity about what real drivers think about GT5P and it's realism.

EDIT:

That just got me to thinking: is there any other sport that you know of,
where you can compete against "big-time" professionals in real-time?
And I mean really compete. Certainly, playing GT5P in the comfort of your
recliner/cockpit is not the same as being in a racecar, but it's about as close
to simulating the real-life experience as you can get with a game, isn't it?
The same can't be said for any other major sport can it? Certainly not tennis,
golf, soccer (football), American football, basketball, etc.

I did race Andrew Stroud one weekend a few years ago in the 'buckets'.
(Miniature Motorcycle Road Racing).
His claim to fame is road racing the big bikes. He did a 500cc GP or two. A few Suzuka 8 hours. Multiple NZ Superbike champion, and of course the predominant rider of the "Britten V1000". Won BoTT at Daytona (twice). World Champion in BEARS etc.
Its the closest I ever came to rubbing shoulders (literally!) with a 'big time' pro.

I've seen that video and they we're getting wooped on too. Dale Jr. stated that he had to ask some of the top on-line drive of that day for help with he sets.

In my opinion every game simulates a special type of car realy good.
I tryed GT, GTR Evo, LFS and R-Faktor and all of them have good and bad points.
I also drove several different cars during the last year (GTR, S2000, Formula Car, 350Z, Caterham, some Audis and Mercedes and more...)
I think the GTR is simulated very good in GT5P also most other Normal- and Sportscars are handling close to them in the game.
In LFS the Formula cars are realy good especialy without ABS they feel very realistic.
GTR simulates Racecars realy good but most Sportscars feel very strange.
Also theres a difference in special situations braking, oversteering, understeering etc, between the realism of every game.
For example i lost controll over the S2000 the reaktion of the car wasn´t as smooth as in GT5P it was more like losing controll in GTR-Evo . :scared:

It depends on which physic fits the best to you, I like GT the most.
I think a Prodriver will take the game where he has the best feeling so some of them could say GT is s*** and others do like it. :sly:

Dale Jr met his spotter racing online. His spotter said there was this guy whose name was DaleEarnhardtJr and it was me and him winning every race. So more than likely he is real good once gets use to the game, and he hadnt played NASCAR '09 much when you saw that video. Just a thought...
