Noob question: I recently bought a new desk which is incredibly thick. I therefore can't clamp my wheel to it and have to buy a stand and I'm wondering if most stands are universal. I currently have a cheap wheel which is the GT3 Logitech Driving Force EX, pretty old and far from amazing but it's fine for me. The stand I'm looking at is (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Steering-...206?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item25a6d1ff5e) It looks cheap and cheerful and it specifies the G25 and G27.

The question is will most steering wheels fit most stands?

Thanks. Apologies if this is in the wrong forum.

EDIT: From further look at the images, it seems it's pretty obvious it fits (all you do is clamp) but I'd like to hear if I'm wrong.

Yeah, that'll work, the description mentions the DFGT which doesn't (at least I'm quite sure it doesn't) have mounting holes like the G25/27 have. You might need the clip-on blocks, though, these things:

So I hope you still have them. Mine went missing almost immediately.

I've got the same wheel as yourself and that stand should fit no probs.

The G25/27 and DF/DFGT seem to have the same clamping system.

That looks good value for half the price of a Wheelstandpro.

The only thing that might be beneficial is a clamp for the pedals.

I know it's got the backstop but a homemade brace to clamp it down would be good for the 'belt and braces' approach.

The only issue I can see is the pedals appear to be very close to the center post. If the pedals are to close you will keep hitting your ankle during braking and shifting. I use to have a Fanatec Rennsport V1 with a center post, however I was able to move the pedal set further away from the post. Just make sure the base is adjustable. I am selling my stand but shipping cost to you would not make a smart purchase.

here are few more to consider.

A mate of mine has the exact same stand (wants me to sell it for him actually). I have it with me now & can tell that the Logitech DFX will definitely fit on it. That said, all wheel stands are not universal, Wheel Stand Pro make various versions of their stand to suit various wheels.

Also, if your desk is very thick, you can try taking off the clamp extender blocks as pictured in post 2 (if you haven't already).
