Ariel Atom BROKEN?!?!?!?!?

This car is the driftiest piece of crap in the game. How in heck are you supposed to complete a time trial for fame with this broken piece of junk when you can't turn the wheels too much without the car bottoming out and doing a god d#@m 360???

This car is so hard to control, I am convinced that it is fundamentally broken and in need of a fix. This car is way to drifty; the car spins out at the slightest turn of the wheels making it impossible to use. There is no need for a car this complicated to drive in an arcade racing game such as this.

I am a completionist when it comes to this game. I want every star and all of the fame, but of the 1000 and some odd stars available, these three will certainly be the death of me, and it frustrates me greatly.

Please someone help me, how the hell am I supposed to drive this car?

For a start, taking a deep breath to calm yourself might help.

Throttle control and short shifting is the general way of driving this car - also braking in a straight line, not whilst turning will help a lot more.

Despite DC having the unfortunate 'arcade' tag (it's actually their own combination of sim/arcade) the handling model is quite deep, surprisingly so once you get further into the zone with it. It is therefore a mistake to see it as wholly an arcade game, because you will treat it accordingly and it'll bite back.

The Atom won't respond if you mash the throttle and go into corners thinking it would stick like the Mono.

You have to be gentle with opening the throttle and use a bit of powerslide to get you out of corners.

Anything more, you'll definitely be spinning the other way around faster than you think.

Short-shifting is the most important thing to remember. Also, only use full throttle when in a straight line otherwise you'll find yourself facing the wrong way very quickly. You want to coast through corners whenever possible or apply only the bare minimum power.

I love the idea of the Aerial Atom V8 but to drive it is horribly recalcitrant. Despite saying that I do not think it is broken.

Yeah, the Atom can be a bit of a slap in the face after driving the vast majority of quite forgiving rides in DC.When i first started the game,i'd laugh at those foolhardy types that would choose an Atom in a multiplayer event, even more so if it was wet.And generally i'd be justified in my mockery as they spun out into the barriers, leaving me to sail by in my supersafe handling Ferrari. But every now and then you'd see some guy weaving some strange witchcraft over his Atom as he took it around every corner without incident as he disappeared into the distance, and if you look on timetrial leaderboards there are plenty of people setting blistering times with them(So i'd say the handling isn't broken it just needs a different approach).
As my experience with DC grows, cars which i initially steered clear of i now embrace.I now want the challenge of a more dangerous handling and i like the fact that there are cars in the game that offer this.
Hope the advice some of the others have given you helps you tame the Atom to get those stars!

Thank you all for the advice. I hope this helps.

I think the advice given is exactly what to do, I can't add any more apart from maybe forget the tour for one evening and take a solo time trial on a track you know very well and happy with- So the pressure is off and you can slide out as much as you like as there are no penalties. Set the time of day to clear, 10am say then race 10-20 laps in the dry and don't stop until you feel the glide round the bends lap after lap.

As you get a feel for the throttle response (light feathering is the word I think haha) you will find you can pull the back end in with more power on the way to the straight then go max throttle only on the straight. If you see a bend coming up slow down to start with. Put the crowd on to see the flags- Red brake/ yellow slow/ Green -straight. Then try light rain, then lastly heavy rain (the hardest) as it will powerslide at the slightest touch( this is where you need more time) once you are happy try a race (solo) on semi pro, pro then legend. You may be surprised when you go back to the tour and try the race you are struggling with.

Good luck as I know where you are coming from and I am trying the same to get times on the Putre at the moment but keep sliding all over and will try again the next day.. 👍

I agree, this car is very hard to control but let me tell you two things. 1) After 3-4 laps you will drive the car much better. 2) In the game settings you can change the angle rotation of the steering wheel as you prefer. I have T300RS.

I personally love the atom. It's one of a few cars in the game that are just mental because of their power to weight ratio and rwd. If you don't like trying to keep the Atom pointing where you want it, I suggest you steer clear of the Koenigsegg One:1. That thing is a mental beast. It's like the rear end has a big problem with the front end beating it to the corner exit  I love it

I loved Ariel Atom when I played Driveclub, maybe some of my laps are still on top spot in Time Trial for this car ... but more good news, in Project CARS Ariel Atom is the same beast and in its essence, handling is quite similar to Driveclub.
