Imagine a 55 car race... on GT Arena.

This is a viable question, but.... Yeah, over 20 on a less than a 1/4 mile track.... Ummmm.... Mayhem! ;)

So saying, I remember that there is a Nascar race (Bristol, if I remember right) that is a 1/2 mile track.... And they put... what... 40-46 cars on it... I think....

And, yes, it's a crazy, crazy race!

More cars online is basically a dream with P2P racing, unless hosts can start imposing standards for connection quality and the system automatically punts anyone that is struggling with lag.

Also, for 55 online in PCars you basically need high end PC with performance so far above that of the PS4, you can't see the PS4. It simply won't be possible with next-gen consoles unless you want to take a massive hit in FPS and consistency.

55 cars is overkill, 16, or 24, or the very most 32 is the sweet spot for online gaming, anything more than that will be annoying.

I did a few large grid races in iRacing, really the more the better IMHO. In a competitive series back at the GT5 peak we has 2 sometimes 3 rooms running at the same time. So at least 34 cars+. It would have been great to have them all in the same room.

I can't see PCars getting 55 cars working on the PS4.

Only on tracks big enough. Smaller tracks (e.g. Brands Hatch Indy) are 24.

I don't think he was talking about track size, more like GPU / CPU power.

Also, why only 24 cars at Brands Hatch Indy? I have seen races with 30 cars in real life.

Project cars is still in alpha. When you setup a race you can choose the amount of opponents. I am sure in the final game they will cut it off at a reasonable number but as for now you can chose a ton. I picked 30 once and it slowed my high end pc down way to much plus it was a total clusterf%&k.

It may be 32, I can't quite remember. All I meant was it's not 55 on every track.

55 opponents, meaning 56 in total.

As somebody else said though, anything beyond 32 would just be annoying.

Let's face it, even if it wasn't laggy, which it will be, it's gonna be pure chaos anyway.
