aspect ratio and hi def

hi i am new to forum and just starting with gt4.

under options there are setting choices for picture with 16:9 and 1080i possible. i am attached to a 1080i plasma tv but there is no picture when i switch to the hi def mode on the ps2 console. it says on screen to use component cables which i dont have as im using the std ps2 cables.

so right now im just using the tv in zoom mode to fill the screen but wonder if there is a better way

The better way is to get component cables, they are worth it and provide a great picture.

You need the component cable to get a high-def signal out to the TV. The standard composite cable is simply incapable of carrying a high-def signal. A component lead will probably set you back $20 - 50 depending on where you buy it from, but the difference is worth every last cent! 👍

how does this work in hi def for the ps2 when the big upgrade for the ps3 over 2 is that its hi def?

While the ps3 is 1080p capable and has hdmi outputs, the gt4 game is 1080i and like smallhorses said you only need the component cable The one from radioshack will be fine. My older/fat ps2 even plays it 1080, so maybe its only in the software. My neighbor has spent over $750 on his ps3 and games and none of them are even 1080, they are all 720, so I dont know. I guess its the blueray movies so far.

I have a PS3 and an HDMI cable. But the game does not seem to give 1080i visuals since my screen is a 105cm HD LCD TV.

IIRC, you need to set it (GT4) to run 1080i somewhere in options...

Not positive, though. All I have is a lowly 13" Daewoo tv.

You can set that in any options menu, under screen. I hear a lot of people with the hdmi cable have this problem. I have not heard of this problem with an component cable yet. If someone out there is using a ps3 with the component cable and it works, please write in.

i got the component cable and set the game to 16:9 and 1080i but no real improvement and still need to use stretch mode on the tv to fill the screen. oh well, its still a great game.
