Aspiring drifter, having technique problems

So earlier today I decided that I wanted to learn drifting. I bought an efini RX7, a 240sx, and the big bad HKS Genki Silvia, all from the UCD. The only one i've touched so far is the RX7. I put sports hard on front, comfort hard on back. And I'm awful. I spent almost the entire afternoon trying to figure it out but I really haven't got anywhere. 9 out of 10 times i just do something wrong and the back end kicks completely around. Tried some tuning, changing camber etc. But i think the problem is in my form, or lack thereof. I even took a quick video so you can see what i'm doing.

So the car seems to almost immediately snap past the threshold of pulling out of the slide. Am i giving too much throttle? Too much initial tip in on steering? Video seems kind of useless without seeing steering input, but whatever. On a Driving Force Pro, and I plan to learn that way.

Any tips, hints, whatever, is greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Both above reaponses I completely agree with. If you would like, add me on PSN and I will help you anyway I can. Good luck. 👍

I can teach you too drift If you add me :P
Nice way to help the community:)

Also Your not being brave enough in the corners. Try feinting (using power to initiate a drift) or the handbrake and start counter steering when you feel like the car has reached it's maximum angle.

Switching to all comfort hards makes total sense because the front end is biting to hard relative to the back end, which is why i'm spinning round so easily. Also I had the diff set to 10/60/60 or 0/60/60. I'll be sure to try all 60s.

ill be sure to post my results, thanks again.

If your spinning use 5/60/60 for diff because it makes a 2 way.

Actually the minimum initial value on the customisable LSD is 5. Just pointing out.

But yeah, don't be shy in the corners, use the accelerator, Scandinavian flick/Manji drifting (maybe apply a little bit of e-brake to initiate and control the drift direction/angle) and try to maintain a (steady) countersteering while drifting, keeping eye on the car behavior and your throttle amount depending on the car's angle. When you're exiting the corner, straighten the wheel smoothly or get ready for another corner. Experiment, experiment more, practice, more practice!

This is coming from a nowadays DS3 user, but I've had some drifting experience using DFP on GT3 and LFS a few years ago. I hope you find some knowledge from what I've just written here.

Ah, Since I have like 28 tuned drift cars and only use 3 of them.. I will probably send you one too give you a good start.

initial torque doesnt have anything to do with how the diff work. its just how much preload it has. i have 30/60/10-30 on diff
allways accel full lock if you dont have it like that it will perform uneven :)

most of my diffs are the same. it's a 1.5 way. same as what's in my real 180sx.

I tried out the new tires and diff settings and the improvement is massive. The rear-end step out is much slower and more predictable. Now I can really learn how to tune the suspension. Thanks for the help guys.

If you need any more help or would simply like to drift around feel free to add me, Im about to open up a lobby in a minute on my SFX account. Stop by if you'd like.

I'd suggest you also read boundary layers fr guide for drifting. That will give you a better understanding of how too tune your car.

Remember, The car is almost as important as the driver.
