Hi guys,

Just after some info and feedback really regarding this system. I have bit the bullet and ordered one with the following spec advertised;

Intel® Core™ i5-3570K Processor
8Gb DDR3 RAM
1Tb SATA hard drive
Slot-in Supermulti DVD RW
Dedicated NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 650
1 touch overclocking
802.11 b/g/n WiFi
USB 3.0; HDMI
Wired keyboard and mouse
Microsoft Windows 8

Now when I check ASUS website the spec varies, as it does with every website selling this model. The actual MPN is CG8480-UK003S but info is limited when I google it.

So my question is, apart from a SSD addition, would you change anything else?

Main use is league admin and recording PS3 via Hauppauge gamer 2 PVR and a little video editing. I think the GTX 650 should be fine but again the spec does not show gb size so I presume it will be a 1gb card.

I would see if you can get Windows 7.
I would also opt for a Bluray burner so you can watch blurays on your PC, back up your system and burn any movies

Thanks for the reply, the OS is a bit of a concern and I do have a copy of Windows 7 albeit 32bit which has obvious drawbacks. I have never used Windows 8 but I have heard it can be adjusted to look and feel like Windows 7. Bluray is not a concern really as it will be purely used for admin/video for our league and I have a Bluray player in our front room that rarely get used to be honest.

So would say a 64gb ssd suffice for windows to run on and to change to Windows 7 if I can get a copy of the 64 bit version. I am just a little concerned about losing Asus features if I change the OS.

If you can get a copy of Windows 7 64bit and it is the same version as the 32bit one, you can use the same key.

If you can, download the ISO from microsoft for your version of windows.

A 64GB SSD is not going to cut it for windows 7 or 8.

You have 2 options with windows 8.

1: install a program called "classicshell" it adds a start menu and removes the start screen and does other UI changes.

2: wait a while and install windows blue, it adds a start menu as well as other changes.

The WinSxS folder has a habbit of getting very large.

Plus for video work the temp storeage will be kept on the C: drive and you want it on the C: drive for better read/write speeds.

There is a reason why very few companys offer 60GB these days.
I do video work on my PC which has a 90GB SSD partition for windows and I go down to 14GB free while I am doing the video work.

If you have some spare money.
Get one of these

Thanks for the replies guys, I spoke to Asus this morning and they are going to email me the exact specs I should receive.

I had a look at that SSD, ouch, almost as much as the PC! I will be looking more towards:

I have also been advised that the motherboard may well be a P8Z77-M Pro so it will certainly suffice my needs with room for upgrades in the future.

Maybe give it 12 months and look to upgrade graphics card if it becomes apparent that my needs will benefit. I may have a look at iRacing also so theres a possibility of triple screens.

Regarding windows 7/8 - My copy of windows 7 has got 32bit printed on the actual disk. Forgive me asking (Ive even looked at windows) but I presume I can insert disk and it will ask I want to upgrade to 64 bit and do a custom install.

Will there be a charge for this from Microsoft and what impact would a downgrade have on the instant overclock, drivers and the Asus utilities? I dont want to cock up the machine and lose some of the functions.

I built a few PCs years back and now as technology has moved forward Im fining myself a little out of depth :)

SSD will be great for only OS part or for primary disk also have you trying to planing for OS windwos 7 ?? since windows 8.1 upcoming with lots of performance tweaks

Thanks guys, really loving new pc with windows score of 5.9 bit thats based on hdd. Im sure the ssd will bring it closer to the 7.9 from the other components.

I have actually started a new thread regarding hd pvr settings if you would kindly see if you can help.
