For those of you who spend considerable time checking out the used car lot . . . What kind of used car shopper are you?

Do you constantly hunt down the lowest mileage car in what ever model that you are looking for?

Do you buy whatever you are looking for whenever it comes around?

Do you buy by color alone?
Are you a 6.2 Mile (10K) collector?

Or do you completely avoid the used car lot unless you have to?

I myself constantly peruse the Used-Car lots. Checking in after an event to see what has popped up on the lot. Scanning the used car list to see what will be appearing over the next couple cycles to see if anything could be an interesting buy.

Up until recently, I would only pick up cars with the lowest available mileage in a specific color. Then I realized that I was spending a considerable amount of wasted credits on cars with minimal performance advantages. Here is an example:

’97 FTO GP Version R – 10,800
200-hp (After oil change)

’97 FTO GP Version R – 7,559
198-hp (After oil change)

The same car can also be purchased for a whopping 14, 039 credits.
(I couldn’t tell you if there is any more HP than the one costing10,800.)

To me, the same car, with the same handling performance and 2hp gain for 3,241 or 6,480 credits isn’t worth it.

But then again, to others it might be.

I’ve also found cars that show no difference in stats no matter what the price.

So what kind of a shopper are you?

Thankyou for proving a long running point from earlier for me Paragon GT, that there IS a difference in power with some cars within the used cars that have more km's than others. With the GT-R, they're the same regardless if it's 40000km or 60000km but you've just shown that you get more power from the 40000km version than the 60000km version. 👍

I go for cheap but giving me lots of km's in that price zone. So I'll go only for cars between 20000-22000km, 40000-42000km and 60000-62000km to give me nearly 20000km of thrashing at that power range. If I can't get those for certain cars (ie. Fairlady, S800) then I go for as low as possible.
Other than that, if there's a 10.0km example then I'll go for it.

Errm I stock up with the money.

Then go and shop.

I go for the colour mainly. I wouldnt buy a supra in purple... a NSX in pink lol

anyways use the money wisely :dopey:

Every now and then, I'll go browsing in the used car lots just to see what's there. I might buy something I like if I see it, or, I might go there if I'm looking for a certain car or range of cars. Outside of that, I'm not as addicted to it as some people are.

Well,i go to used car shop for cheap, high performance, low mileage car(at least one that value for money).Once i saw the black beauties but i have no cash, now i need to restart my career file for it

No need to restart, they do reappear again.

Actually it was the other way around. The higher mileage car had lower HP by 2.

i go for pretty much anything that takes my fancy at the time, althought i do keep and eye out for:
MNP Nissans
Rare coloured cars (i.e red or yellow R34 GT-R)
Odd coloured cars such as yellow or purple
Peugeot 205 road car
Lancia Delta road car
Cars that look like they could be interesting (Honda City Turbo II thrashes standard Zondas)

I bought each model once when I aimed to own every car in the game, and I found them all eventually. Otherwise, I don't bother with colors or mileage. The used lots are just another source of all the cars in GT4 to me.

If I see anything that strikes my fancy I buy it... I don't really worry about mileage... it might cost you between 2 to 15 hp but thats not much... only thing is the regidity refresher you have to buy but I have 8,000,000 plus credits money is no issue for me...

After awhile, the same cars show up again and again, so to avoid any monotony ruining the effect of the used car rotation and imprinting any sort of pattern in my head,, I only shop when I need to.

I collect under 10.000 Cr Cars
Such as Toyota MR2-GTS and Chevrolet Camaro '97
Once I collected all japanese yellow cars there was possible to get.
Wasting the credits all the time, but what else could you do with it?
I also try to buy the 4 black cars each cycle they appear.
There is only room for 3 setups/car so I need more of the same car to be able to switch more easily
between drift/drag 400m/drag 1000m/max speed/endurance/b-spec/a-spec
setups and so on.

This is a great thread and long overdue IMO. I have been planning to propose a thread to list the good rare cars in the used lots. Obviously, this would take some of the Black Beauty questions (by the way, how do I get thoes cars?) but would be a more comprehensive list of the 10k specials, and the less common cars (eg a list of cars that come up 10 times or less).

Shortly after coming up with this idea I missed the Peugeot T16 for the third consecutive time. As a newbie I lost sleep over the thought of missing the Renault 5 Turbo (then discovered it's a prize car). It might save people a lot of angst if we had a list than be easily printed out to let us know what is coming up. I've seen similar things on other sites but they are far below the quality I have come to expect after being around gtplanet for a while. Has this been done or attempted before, and if not, is there any interest in producing such a list?

Isn't that what I requoted?? That you get more power from less km??

Your right . . . Sorry . . . Brain fart on my part. :dopey:

Actually there is a thread on that already. Its here. There is even a down loadable Excel sheet containing every car in every week. Its pretty handy to have.

Erm... if I'm not mistaken there is a list. In the stickies at the top of the page. Unfortunately, it's not really printable (well, maybe if you have a ream or two of paper lying around), but it's here. Also, there is this shorter and more accessible list of rare cars here. I found both very useful.

Edit: Whoops, tree'd.

I'm currently collecting all the 6.2-milers (the ones you can't get new), but I'll also get my favorite cars in certain colors. For instance, I've been looking for a red M Coupe for a while, and finally came across one. I own that car, as well as the TME GSR, in several colors.

i look for the car above all. i don't really care if it runs or what color it is as that all can be fixed.

however if it's expensive for the condition like if someone wants 8k for a MR2 that doesn't run whatsoever i would laugh and turn around.

I don't usually have a car in mind, I like to be surprised-when I find a car I didn't know was in the game and haven't driven before. That said I was in the hunt for a black Z3M coupe and I found it even when I wasn't looking for it, I was just browsing at the time so that was pretty cool.

I collect every 6.2 miler and every nice colour of car I see. Thing is I don't drive them so out of the 950-odd cars in my garage, only 500-odd have been driven! :scared:

I have every colour of Lancia Delta. :dopey:

See one of the things that I do (and keep doing) is I go out and buy a car, toy around with it for a while, get bored and wonder why I bought it in the first place, sell it, remember why I bought it and go out and find it again (And the cycle starts all over again.) I can't tell you how many cars I have done this with.

One of the cars that I constantly do this with is a Toyota Supra RZ. I can't tell you how many of these I have owned for brief moments in time, only to sell it off. Then I stumble across one again and buy another one. I'm thinking that the latest one that I have bought will be around for a while. I have actually run it in a few events, and even worked on it a little too. Something that I didn't do on the previous ones I owned.

I go in and buy usually loads of cars that I think would be interesting, a few weeks later and I still haven't driven them so they normally get sold.

If I need a car, I'll buy it no matter the colour. I'm still on the look out for a black MR2 GT-S.

I usually go to the used car lots after every event on the lookout for every colour mercury cougar made. I will also buy any car that I need to do events from the used car lots as I don't really notice the difference between used cars( after oil change ofcourse) and brand new cars. I will also buy any car that catches my attention. I have HEAPS of credits(Earned them the hard way, NO cheats) so I buy whatever I want usually. :)

I always visit the used car lots to buy rare vehicles when they appear - but only if they can't be bought at a showroom or won as a prize car. The Nissan Fairlady 2000 (SR311) for example.

I did primarily looking for the 6.2 mile Skyline GTR's although I have picked up some non-GTR Skylines from time to time. I do also look for different colors in different years not just the Generations such as R32, R33, or R34.
