As the crash test regulations have gotten stricter over the years, the cars have become heavier as they meet the regulations.

...I'm well aware of that. However, I'm asking because the post I quoted simply "popped" out of nowhere, lacking a bit of context.

For all I know, he could have wanted to write "crash test is for the dummies" or some such, before the battery in his phone died. {shrugs shoulders}
 
Bigger crumple zones = more weight?
I thought, i dont have to add anything, because we are all clever here.

Also more luxury trim is a cause for more weight.
