The 80 became a whole lot more interesting in 1973 when the Ingolstadt engineers installed a hot 100bhp version of the 1.6-litre under the bonnet. With a free-revving engine and tenacious handling – lower and stiffer suspension helped here – it proved a very effective Q-car. But in 1976 the GT-era was over and a new and faster model was here, the facelifted Audi 80 GTE with fuel injection and 110 hp

Powertrain: 1588cc , Inline-4 , 100 hp / 6000 rpm , 131,5 Nm / 4000 rpm , 4-speed manual

Dimensinos: Length 4175 mm , Width 1600 mm , Height 1362 mm , Weight 855 kg

Performance: Top speed 175 km/h , 0-100 km/h 9,6 sec
