This is the Audi Q8 concept that just debuted at the 2017 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. Audi went as far as comparing the concept's design to the ur-Quattro rally cars of the 1980s, and while that might be wishful thinking, they certainly didn't cut corners coming up with aggressive angles. The close-to-production Q8 concept has all of them, evenly spread across its 16.5 feet of bodywork.
Inside, the concept has all the toys Audi has at the moment. Those luxurious leather seats are surrounded by an army of touch-sensitive surfaces, while all the necessary information is projected in front of the driver by a touch-sensitive heads-up display.
There’s also plenty of luxurious tech items to please. Audi’s “virtual cockpit” here stands out: a 12.3-inch display for maps or lists in 3D. The remaining monitors are all touch displays, cleaning up the interior even more.
The combustion and the electric motor produces 444 BHP and 516 ft-lbs of torque combined, and Audi says the Q8 concept can go to 60 mph in 5.4 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph. Audi also says the drive system utilizes a satellite button the flat-bottomed steering wheel that functions like the start-stop system; it offers three driving modes: EV for the electric powertrain, hybrid, and “battery hold,” which preserves the electric energy for later.
Audi says the Q8 will be ready to become a full production vehicle in 2018.
