Competition 87

Theme chosen by LongbowX

THEME: In their words: "Small scale.

Break out your small models (1/43 or less)."

36763596436_9389fbb68c_o.jpg

  • Editing: Levels, Curves, Colour Balance, Brightness/Contrast, Hue/Saturation, Shadows/Highlight adjustments, Cropping, or anything else capable in the development process or with filters and common special lenses (such as gradients) are allowed to be used in Photoshop or other image editing softwares. Other adjustments and effects (such as paintbrush tools) are not allowed to be used in your picture . You may also use Unsharp Mask.

  • Photographs should ideally include some composition and effect - Base the photo on a studio shoot, or even use diorama/composition to create a realistic setting (you could position the model and camera in such a way in an outside setting so that it appears to be a 'real' car)

  • No HDR shots.

  • Shots must be taken between January 2015 and the present day.

  • Work that has been shown previously (outside of the competition) is allowed.

  • One entry per competition. You may change your entry as many times as you wish, however the entry you wish to submit should clearly be labelled with "Final Entry".

  • Pictures posted should preferably be around 900px on their longest edge. You may link to a larger photograph in the post (I believe this is the size limit allowed by the Photography forum, however it likely hasn't been updated in some time)

  • All scales of model are allowed unless specified.

@Apok I admire what you do with your smaller scale models. Personally, I think you deserved to win last week, it was an excellently arranged shot. I think I will try to use some of my small models as well over the next competitions (if they fit), as I haven't really photographed them.

Thank you, I'm glad you think so. I was very close to submitting a pretty basic uninspired head-on photo, but decided to try again last minute.
I have a few reasons for using small scale models. You don't need a lot of room or set-up to take the photo, you can fit a lot of them in a shot and with time I've learned how to take decent pictures with my not-so-decent camera. I struggle taking pictures of larger scales even when I try.
Finally, and probably most importantly, you can't really beat variety. I have a couple hundred subjects to choose from and that's always a good feeling.

All that being said I'm considering going outside my comfort zone this week and going for a different scale. No 1/64 this time.

@Apok I've become more enthusiastic about small scale models. The variety is fantastic, and smaller is more practical space-wise haha.

1/100th this week? :sly:

Final Entry

Camera: Nikon Coolpix S230
Model: BMW 320 Gr. 5 by Schuco
Scale: 1/87 (Close guess @LongbowX )

Tried to make the small scale more apparent by adding a bunch of stuff into the photo, but it kind of looks like that's a massive book.

@GT HP Nut While I would discourage their use for accessibility of this competition, I don't have a problem with their limited use. Of course, it's impossible to write a rule like "you can use something, but not too much". I'd like to hear other opinions if possible before I make a decision on the matter.

I think that in the interest of keeping the competition accessible, paintbrushes or adding anything external (such as editing in a licence plate for example) through digital editing should not be allowed.

That being said I don't mind allowing it this one time.

Sorry I couldn't enter again. Just moved house and haven't got my com setup yet for editing. Only just got internet going.
