what is anyones view on a engine from through a protective glass window? Too visible?

P.S Tying for second on my first attempt - yeah, I'm happy with that :D

That would be fine, its more about getting away from the outside of a car and looking at the 'oily bits'.

Regards

Er...oh dear. I'm more looking at the highley polished engine bay of teh R8 V10 - which isn't oily or dirty at all.

It's still fine, don't get to literal about it, its more about showing parts of the car that are not normally the focus of attention.

R8 V10 engine bay - go for it - done well it could well look stunning.

👍

Thanks for all the help - it looks alright but lacks the impact. I realised I have more shots of engines than I thought:dunce:.

One last question - is it frowned upon to use a shot that is already featured in one's gallery? Would I need to re-edit it for the competition's purpose?

I looked over and over for something in the rules that you weren't allowed to use a shot that had been used before in a gallery but couldn't find anything (I'm sure there used to be such a rule). Personally as a fellow "competitor" in the photography comps I wouldn't be bothered at all if you used one I'd seen already, though it might take away some of the "surprise and delight" of seeing the shot for the first time ;)

I know for as long as I have been running it, there has been no such rule. And I looked through when I didn't run it, and I still can't find any such rule.

I don't really mind (as a competitor ) if there is an entry from someone's gallery. It's not really frowned upon - only in the way that has already been mentioned: that we don't get to see a shiny new photo. Thus, re-editing is not even necessary.

Is everyone else out taking photos for this or something? I've been waiting to see what everyone else comes up with!

I'll be doing mine today or tomorrow, I need to wash my car first as it did over 500 miles this weekend and is covered in road grim and sand from Lake Michigan. I have a pretty awesome idea too.

I'm going to take a shot of my own car's engine, since I don't have any such type of shots nor decent cars available.

And to think that only a few of weeks ago I was in "Nova Racing Team" 's shop (last couple of years' winners of the PTCC with a BMW E90 320IS), as a friend of mine works there, I even got to seat on the car, he opened the hood/bonnet for me to take a look, I saw the engine bay and totally forgot to take pics of it, as I was drooling all over it (never saw so much raw CF together before).
I suck.

I'd love to have a close look around a Super2000-spec 320is. They seem so immaculately engineered, even to the point where the cockpit looks absolutely pristine, unlike many touring cars.

I've always wanted to do a shot like this ever since I owned the car. It's a shot through the headlamp opening looking at the engine. I wish I could have got a better angle on it but as it was I was laying over a rather unstable staircase on a loading dock.

I thought I would inform people that the closing of this contest won't occur until 2 hours later than usual (7pm GMT), as I have a meeting earlier. So all those last minute entires...you have two extra hours to choose which to submit.

It's been a while that I posted in this subforum since I'm very busy lately, but nonetheless, here's a shot I took a few minutes ago (since it's sitting right outside my doorstep, I figured I could spare a few minutes ;)).
