THEME: 80Y 2C2's words: "Close up features - Basically any features of any car (defining or not) that couldn't be seen if you were far away. It could be a badge, vent, wires, framing, lights....whatever. What interesting design or engineering features have you found?"

Had a lot of trouble choosing between Speedster502 and Scaff's shots, both of which are excellent 👍 Went with Speedster's in the end, it's really eye-catching. Once I saw it I actually went out to take some car photographs and try and get one even better, but I just couldn't! I might post the "fails" in my own gallery...

I didn't take the picture with the intention of entering this, but I was wondering, what it was to cause it to get no votes. And that's not to say the voting was not right, the other pictures do rock. Is it the fact that it looks squished? Oh well, any criticisms are welcome!

There's nothing wrong with the shot itself, you just generally find that there's a very high standard of photos in here and some excellent shots sometimes go without a single vote. I've entered a number of these competitions and only ever won one of them, and even then, that was a tie and remained a tie after a deciding vote-off! Yet the shot that won wasn't one I'd even slightly consider my best photograph.

My advice: Keep trying, and don't be disheartened by lack of votes. You're still adding something to the competition by participating and when the time comes you'll get votes coming your way 👍

Oh no, don't take it the wrong way, I'm not complaining for the lack of votes, rather what should I have been doing differently. I know the shots in here are held to a high standard, and the shots themselves are of a high standard. In fact, the shots on GTP have made me want a DSLR just to better capture things, my point and shoot is meh, and my editing skills just the same, though I am working.

Another thing to consider is that every person can only vote for one shot, even if they were torn between some - they can only vote for one. They might have ranked your shot 2nd or 3rd and yet you would never know it by the votes - so it can be a bit unrepresentative. Your shot certainly isn't bad, and there are a few other people who shoot with non-DSLRs and have won.

As long as you keep trying, you'll get there.
