mmm didn't knowhether to put this in the Gaming or Hardware forum, shouldn't we have a PC problems forum? :D

Anyway I was going to make a new avatar, but my Free GIF Animator trial ended. So I uninstalled and then re-downloaded (with a different email) to install again.

The program started but again came up with, 'trail period ended'.

I wiped of all the cookies I could find and still it wouldn't work?

Where will the hidden bug be that detects I've already had a free trial?

Or are there other free animator programs avaiolable for download?

Perhaps I should stop being a stingy 🤬 and just pay :2cents: for some software ....mmm nah

You'll find that this information is coded into the registry somewhere. I don't recommend that you go hacking the registry unless you know what you're doing!

I would suggest that you save your pennies for Paint Shop Pro, which rocks, quite frankly.

Or...you could be a pirate and download it.

I wouldn't suggest Animation Shop. It has cool effects but can't compress for dog's balls.

Registry? Don't you go Start > Run > regedit to get into that?

Yeah, you would go into Regedit and delete everything that has to do with that program. But, I recommend PSP7 as well. Nothing beats it, even Photoshop. :D

How do you work that out. Sure, PSP7 is way easier to use but does it have the effects and stuff that Photoshop has. No. It can create some good graphics. See my gravel avatar, that was a quick 5 second job in PSP7.

If $1,499AUD is way out of your reach and Photoshop is overkill for your needs, by all means go for Paint Shop Pro as it is much cheaper than PS7. It's the 2nd best graphics editing program, I'll give it that much.

Just out of curiosity, did you try changing your systems clock/date? Some of the older programs didn't have a detection mechanism that monitored that action. You could simply back date your computer and continue on. Sometimes, you had to do it in dos, but it's worth a shot if you haven't tried that yet.

You could also, as previously suggested, save you pennies for a full-blown copy of something, preferably an educational copy at a much needed discount.

Or you could change the registry...

  1. Get into Regedit by going Start > Run. Type in regedit.
  2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE in the left frame.
  3. Go to Software.
  4. Click on Ulead Systems.
  5. Click on GIF Animator xx.
  6. Delete everything.
  7. Re-install GIF Animator.

Ya but sometimes programs create more than 1 registry key. So maybe its better to do a search though the registry, or if you know where those sort of keys go just del them all. Personally I would just get rid of the registry keys, re-install the demo and then look for a crack, so that you have the full working version.

But thats because im a cheaparse :D

Wow thanks for the help guys that's great, never tried hacking my own PC before

I uninstalled the program before trying this and couldn't find the file?

I don't bother with cracks anymore, I just download the full versions off of Kazaa and WinMX.

Photoshop is great if you're a hardcore artist and graphics editor, but if you're a relative novice, who wants to do relatively simple stuff, then PSP, which is approximately 15% of the price of Photoshop, is the better value for money.
