I think they were on heavy duty drugs when they designed that one. ewwwww
Some of what GM is doing is unique and attractive, but the Aztec really is the worst of the bunch.

Well, I am the "no." Frankly, I don't think it's the ugliest car in the world, a title which we simply owe to Prowler. That said, the Aztek - and it's AZTEK not Aztec - is ugly as hell.

You think the Prowler is uglier than the dayumn Aztek? Interesting...:)

I defintally think the prowler is better looking than the aztec. But I've seen uglier cars than the aztec, for instance: I don't approve of Nissan Micra looks.

Oh, it's realtively easy to puzzle out why GM made it... They were trying to make a minivan that would appeal to the non-minivan people of the world. But, I would imagine people like me who are rapidly approaching 30 and just not terribly cool with it.

They took your average Minivan (the Pontiac Montana) and gave it it's own "edgy" design. They took the face of the Bonneville (which is ok) and then just stuck on 1500 other odd angled pieces of plastic from front to back.

Now, I myself find it a shame it is such an ugly beast, 'cause aside from it's aesthetics, it is s'posed to be one heck of a vehicle. Little things like the cooler/console, the tent for the back, 150,000 tie-downs inside it, a bikerack for the inside etc... etc... make it a pretty attractive idea. But man... I can't get by the looks.

Anyone notice how the Aztek's headlights are dead ringers for the BMW CS1 taillights? Hah -- proof that Chapman *is* the world's worst designer :D

Maybe they were making something for the military in a stealth type vehicle and fell through. :D :D
Man, that yellow on that Aztek is an abomination to the word ugly, repulsive, yuck and many more adjectives I dont know.
Uggggghhhh, why did I go back to this thread. lol

Dammit, I meant *Bangle*. I drew a blank on who that grinning idiot was. (No wonder the he's always similing in press photos -- no one's discovered that he's a total fraud yet.)

He's no total fraud - are you telling me that you don't like the rest of the 7-series (sans the back)?? I think it's rather classy. The 3-series compact, though, is a waste.

I know I've rambled on about this before but:

The 7 is *okay*. Yes, the trunk is cr@p, but the sides are too high-waisted for me, and the front looks too chubby -- like the rear end of the Audi A6. It just looks like a half-effort. I'd like to see Ian Callum (Vanquish!) try to update last year's 7, and have BMW go with that next year.

And the 3-Compact is junk. The last one seemed to work okay, but both look like they had their arms chopped off (all shoulders). The new 3C may handle well, but I wouldn't be caught in one. Ghetto price, ghetto looks.

If GM can re-calibrate the body design of the Aztec, it would have been better. Although this car is a oversized Swiss Knife (and that is a good thing).

I call the Aztec "Superfreak" ;)

The scene in GM's design office the day the Aztek was concieved:

Joe: You know, Bill I feel sick.

Bill: Just one more hour. If we don't come up with a vehicle to take GM in a "new direction" we're going to have some people mad at us. Let's brainstorm some ideas.

Mike: Definatly an SUV. They're all the rage.

Bill: Ok. That's some thing to go off of.

Josh: But it should also have stuff that people can take advantage of on the weekends; when they're not dropping off their kids and getting groceries.

Mike: How about a tent?

Bill: Great! Those are the kind of ideas we need.

Josh: What about styling?

Mike: Lots of hard edges. All the new concept cars have lots of geometric shapes.

Bill: Good. You've been quiet Joe, any ideas?

At that moment Bill vomits on the table and everyone Looks at it for a second and then turns to Bill.

Bill: Joe, you're a genius! That's the thinking we need to attract young buyers. It has a very unique look. Now lets get lunch.
