B License Golds

Okay, I started GT3 over (again) but I wanted starting the gmae over again alot more challenging. Being aware of the prize cars obtainable after getting all golds in any license i figured if I were to just get all golds in B i would have a decent enough car to start with plus 18k. After lots of playing I got Gold on 1-5 and 7. I just want pointers from people who have gotten all golds in B to help me with 6 (Deep Forest with the Gen 2 Miata) and 8 (GTR V-Spec III @ Trial Mountain). My best in 8 is still over 1 second too slow.

I'm currently playing GT3 over and over again, and enjoying getting gold on the B License Test every time I play. Don't forget, if you do get gold, use the prize car, a 160hp Mazda Miata LS, to win the Sunday Cup, Clubman Cup, the FR Challenge, the Spider & Roadster Cup and the NA Sports race before you sell it. If you decide to get the IA License, be sure to enter the Roadster Endurance race with it before selling it, but this might be too hard for you since you are having trouble getting the gold on 7 and 8 of the B License Test. If not, don't worry, the other races, and the prize cars, should net you around 50,000 credits by then. That's more than enough credits for a decent car, like a Corvette.

The 7th test is easy. Remember to use the rumble strip to help you go through turns quicker. At the launch, don't spin the tires. Before the launch, put the engine RPM at 3,000, and after moving a split second after the launch, floor it. If done correctly, you should be ahead of the demo by a full car length by the time you hit the first long wide right turn. Oh yeah, follow the demo path, and watch the demo for tips. This shouldn't always be followed, but for this test it should. Follow the blue path, and don't brake for any of the turns. You should never use the brake once for this test. Back off the accelerator just before going through the turns. Don't back off completely, or you'll get a lousy time. Just put enough pressure on the accelerator to keep the car going, but not too much, or the tires will spin. Remember, the X button is pressure sensative.

The 8th test is more difficult, but the same rules apply. Put the RPM at 4,500 before the launch, and just a split second after the launch, floor it. Cut the first left turn greatly by going over the rumble strip. You'll go faster here than the demo by doing this. Next, go throught the right turn without accelerating too much. Remember not to use a full throttle position on all the turns. Follow the rest of the patch as the demo. If you are understeering too much, and can't follow the path of the demo, it means you're accelerating too much, and need to back off the accelerator more before entering the turns. On the path, notice the blue part of the path means accelerate, red means brake, and gray means light throttle position. It takes a lot of practice to get this one done correctly, and it will take a lot of getting use to. This test is the big hurdle for the rest of the license tests. Pass this, and you should pass the rest of them, but they wont be easy.

Good luck.

B8 always takes forever, as you're in a powerful 4WD car with all-wheel steering on a long, difficult section of track. The all-wheel steering really affects the handling of the Skyline. It can hold a turn of a given radius more easily, but it can also rotate unexpectedly since the rear tires help to turn the car when you're giving it gas. The main tips I can give you are: 1) Stay a bit inside of the 'line' on the first left-hand turn, since you can still make the turn without going that far out, picking up a small amount of time over the demo. 2) Watch the hill immediately after that turn, try to have the wheels pointed straight as you go over it to avoid sliding. 3) Very important to absolutely nail the last turn. I had the rest of the course down and kept getting within a tenth of a second of the gold time, until finally I did a run where I just 'got it' on the last turn. Heading into the tunnel, I could see my ghost a few car lengths back, and smiled all the way to the finish.

Overall, just be smooth with your steering and throttle inputs and the car will react more predictably without sliding away precious momentum.

Going back to it, this test isn't easy to gold, partly because the car is 4WD and partly because of nature of the last corner. Basically, if you hook the last corner up, you will get a good time, even if you weren't doing that well before. Spent a couple of hours on this after reading this thread, managed to get a time of 42.393 with a clean tidy run.

Turn 1: You want to get away with as early a turn in as you possibly can, to take the shortest route. Try to aim to run a little wider than the demo line, but not much, keep the throttle floored.

Turn 2: This is all about aggressiveness and late braking, for me anyway. Brake well into the red area, preferably wait until you are about 1/3 of the way through. Then really *stamp* on the brakes, and as soon as you are off the brakes (left foot braking might help but is in no way necessary), *slam* the throttle down, using the kerb to cut the shortest route through the corner. The car might slide a little, but just countersteer lightly and *make sure you use all the track*.

Turn 3: This is about timing, and lifting of the throttle gradually so as not to unsettle the car and make it slide. Sliding is a no-no here, unless you are a cocky bastard with god-like car control. Try and be smooth and watch the speedometer. Don't go below 122/123 kph if you can avoid it. If you have to lift mid-corner, you might as well give up and start again.

Turn 4: The big one. Pitch the car in aggressively as though aiming to clip the inside of the corner. If you crash embarassingly into the inside wall then you are taking *exactly* the right attitude. Just keep trying until you get the timing right, and the sliding caused by your aggressive steering and lifting off the throttle will take you *just* past the inside wall, and then you simply floor the throttle, keep the car straight over the bumps, and use every last nanometer of track space to get the best exit speed possible. *USE ALL THE TRACK!!!*

If you can gold this, then every other test in the game is simply a matter of time. Even S-8.

I'll agree that out of all the license tests (I've golded all 48), B8 is one of the hardest tests. In fact, I would dread having to do it again! I tried and tried for a week or more, and I feel like I just finally got lucky. Honestly I don't think I could do it again if I tried. Another great one to look foreward to spending lots of time on is A7. Good luck, but like f310b said... if you can gold B8, then you can do everything else in time.

The ones I've gotten golds on that really stand out as being difficult are this one, the NSX at Apricot Hill (but man, do you learn that section), and the Camaro at Seattle. I haven't gotten all golds in IA or S yet.

I got all golds twice :) When I first started GT3, I also wanted to make all golds for a decent start of GT3. But it took me a lot time and still didn't make it, so i started it with bronze or silver licenses and turned them all to gold after completion of all races. B8 was the hardest test there, but somehow I did it.

At second attempt - I said - this time I want all golds on the start and finnaly succeeded. I made B8 for gold in 1st try! The one that took me ages and tries - over 2 hrs, was the Camaro in Seattle uphill ... :(.

My advice for B8 would be, to start with a lot throttle, because it's a 4WD car so you have a alot of grip. Then learn to cut the corners a bit, ehre you can. The most important thing of all - brake early!!! after that keep a tidy line and accelerate out of corner early. Don't push it at corner entry, that will mess your line (make it wide) and you won't be able to accelerate fully. You can think of it like this also: braking is important, but it takes aproximately 10% of your racing time. The rest of it is accelerating (usually), maybe there is a 5% of not accelerating nor braking - just steering :). So you don't need to be late demon braker and brake as late as possible, because you will gain less, than acclererating earlier. Hope this makes sense.

Good Luck!!

I dunno about anyone else, but isn't the fastest start in B8 achieved by simply full revs?

The most annoying thing with standing start tests is that you can spend ages re-doing the test, missing the gold by hundreths/thousandths, and then realise you have been losing half a second at the start :dunce:

During preparations for Hurricane Frances, I started a 2nd game of GT3, and attempted an all-gold B license, so I'd have a free Miata and credits for later. I won the all-gold license in about 3.5 hours of work, but it was worth it. After that, I just went for bronze or silver (no sence getting too frustrated when you can't go or see the outside).

The first few times to try for an all-gold test, I just check to see what the exact shift point is for each gear. The AI demo for each test tends to shift earlier, so you may gain a couple of tenths if you don't drive like a computer. I think I launched at full-revs, and took turn 1 of B-8 close on the inside, so I'd be straight and ready for the next one.

I hit the brake lightly for turn 2, lift for a moment, throw it sideways just enough, and go easy back on the accelerator.

If you set yourself up just right, you can take turn 3 without a lift or much of one. I stayed the course to the left exiting 2 to be ready for 3. It gained me time.

As soon as I was "rebounding" (no, not after hitting the rocks, but the natural response of the car to hard cornering) out of three, and veering to the right, I'm taking the most precious corner of them all. This lefty is a pinched double-apex corner, it tightens up, and it's banked to boot. you can't go wide at any point (excpet the exit, of course), but going too deep on the inside will make you touch the embankment. When you get it right, it's always been one of the thrills of playing any version of Gran Turismo! So I turn in just a little, towards the middle, let the car to the work, and get on the gas the millisecond the car is pointed rather straight for the straightline ending (I hate those long endings!).

Anyway, I hope that helped. Two hours of my time was spent getting a gold on the B-8 test alone. Ironically, the only other one that demanded more than a half hour was B-1. For some reason, I couldn't get that Beetle to stop in just the right place. The "landing pad" is much shorter than what I was used to in GT2, and you couldn't just stop the front wheels on it. Phooey.

As for the rest, here is how many attempts for gold on each by me:
B2: 5
B3: 6
B4: 4
B5: 6
B6: 8
B7: 5

I'm a B license Gold newbie ( got it a few weeks ago ).

About B6 ( Miata at GranValley ), it took me about 1 hour to get it.
Follow the path and never brake.

About B8 ( Skyline at trial mountain ):

Start at full throttle.

1st turn ( left ) : stay on the inside of the turn, you'll save some precious 1/10ths
of a second. I don't understand why in the demo the car is so much on the outside of the curve.

2nd sharp right turn: Approach it on the left side of the road as much as you can, with the 2 left wheels in the dirt and almost hitting the rock on the left side of the road.
When you are on the left ( outside ) rumble strip, steer fully to the right and brake very strongly for a short time. Do not accelerate fully until your right front wheel is on the right ( inside ) rumble strip.
Then follow the blue line leading to turn 3 and 4 ( left right ) raising your foot from the accelerator when required.
When entering the 1st short tunnel you should be completely on the right side of the road, almost hitting the right wall. Then as for turn 2, brake harply, steer left aiming toward the end of the left wall while tapping the throttle.
The way the curve is made, taking the apex at full speed will almost catapult the car outside of the curve in the perfect line.
Negociating that damn last turn perfectly is imho ( and I agree with pupik )one of the thrills of GT3.
I used automatic transmission for B8. I tried manual transmission but it didn't make any difference for me.
On the other side using MT helped me for B5 and B6.

Another point: I shaved at least 0.5 seconds from my time in B8 after desabling all the driving helps ( traction and stability ). At least that was my experience.

Good luck

Stick your lines! Improper lines can lead to being .007 seconds off the Gold time and sitting there for 45 minutes in a pool of your own tears.

lol :)

C'mon .... bronze are not that hard ...? Or are they. To me bronze were relatively easy first time arround. Golds took me a bit more tries.

Second time arround I made all golds in B on average in 3 tries ... honestly. Knowing the tracks helped A LOT. I also allways use manual transmission without TCS and ASM.

I like starting from stillpoint, because you can win the most at start, if you take some tries to learn best start. With 4WD cars it's best to start with very high rev, with strong RWD cars I suggest starting with high revs in 2nd gear (for example that viper test). And for FF cars - avoid that wheelspin, gradually push the pedal and it will be OK.

Good luck.

So, did you manage to get gold? Did you ever look back to this thread?
Anyway, here's my way to get the gold for B8.

I used manual transmission without TCS and ASM.

Start at full throttle. Forget about that perfect line, it's only perfect if you can handle your DS2 perfectly.

1st corner: wide in, near out, stay in the second gear. Stay on the left side of the track as long as possible, shortly press the brakes and steer to the right, you will cut that 2nd corner like a knife. Full throttle again. 3rd corner is a short one to the left, stay to the left as much as you can. When you enter that corner release throttle and wait about half a second to steer fully to the right. Full throttle. When done right, you will come out of that corner a little bit on the left side of the road, but you will be on the right side much earlier compared to the demo and that's were you want to be.

When you did it all right the last corner is not as nasty as it looked like before.
You are on the very right side of the track, release the throttle a little bit later compared to the demo, steer fully to the left at full throttle. Now you even have the change to correct some minor mistakes... if any.

good luck 👍

Not for me. I find launching at about 3500 or so revs will give me a good length and a half over launching at full revs by the time I get to the first turn.

B8 is a b*tch. I've beat it about 5 times, but it takes at least a couple of hours. Live everyone else, I have trouble with the Camaro in Seattle (and I live in Seattle, how embarrassing) and the NSX at Apricot Hill.

I golded b8 a while ago. I've gotten up to I-B golded. Then I pretty much just gave up on golds. I didn't give up, more like have no inclination to do them.
