When you start a race in B-Spec mode, all drivers' laps are clocked not against their own starting time, but against YOUR starting time. Since there is a lag of approximately 1 second between racers in a rolling start, this means that the leader gets a 11-second bonus in his lap time, making this an impossible and unbeatable lap; the second place gets a 10-minute bonus, the third gets 9 seconds, and so on.
I noticed this weird behavior while searching for a reason why my opponents clocked an ultra-fast first lap and then started to turn normal laps. It's easy to confirm what I am saying: just run a race where you start last (say, one of the Seasonal races) and watch the Live Timing screen. The big number on top starts rolling when you cross the start line. At first all racers' laps are empty. When the leader crosses the finish line, the time that appears is exactly the same you see on top, even though this is YOUR lap time and he started 11 seconds ahead of you!
Furthermore, compare his lap time and yours. If you passed, say, three or four cars and appear as being 8 seconds behing the leader, that means you gained some 3 seconds on him. Even so, his lap will be much faster than yours, which makes no sense at all.
This means all hot laps during the race are false, since these impossible initial lap times cannot be improved no matter how many hot laps your opponents turn; therefore, the best lap feature is misleading and useless.
This seems such a huge oversight in the game that I tend to believe I must be wrong. Is there a reason for this weird clocking behavior? Am I missing something?
