B-Spec freezing up solid

I am not sure if this is the game or what, but lately B-Spec has been freezing with the hard drive access light fully lit but there is no access or noise consistent with hard drive access.

At first I thought it was related to using high powered vehicles because of the number of calculations required to navigate the track, but it has now occurred when using a Yaris. To combat heat, I use a pedestal fan to circulate air around the unit, I have also used the air conditioning set to 18C, but it still occurs.

Any suggestions? My first thought is a failing hard drive, but there would be far more obvious signs than a game locking up.

I think I might be having a similar problem, but it appears only with standard cars.. I've been b-specing to break in most of my favourite cars but the two standards I've used seem to freeze the game, whilst it's been fine for all of the premium cars
