Back to the basic formula...

I am not an expert, but I would like to know where I am in the GT5P world in term of driving skills. Since I still thinking that the S and R tires are unrealistic (just my opinion, I don’t want to start another debate here), I have a really hard time to compare myself with other GTP members online…
… because of the stickiest tires people have always the tendency to choose. And the time you have to tune your cars. Don’t feel guilty, I understand that we are here most of the time to win :). I simply feel most of the time very hard to follow all of you because of my no-time-to-try tuning.
On top of it, because I always try to do my best in term of clean racing and being a gentleman, I avoid the no-tuning-allowed Beginners races or the famous Intermediate punting racers :(.

So I would like to go to the basic (My preferred car on GT4 was the Cobra with N1 tires !) and I want to have my first try with the Ferrari F40 on Expert Suzuka 550PP:

- Power : 410 hp (-34)
- Weight : 1216 kg (90%)
- Tires: N3 – N3
- Last ratio: 4.360 (299km/h)
- No other tunings, no ABS, no traction control, no nothing (back to the basic formula)… So it will exactly 550 pp.

As you can expect, I would like my others opponents to have the same settings, like this we can compare oranges with oranges, as we usually say in french...

I have a family so the only short time I have for myself are on Tuesday and Thursday night. And I want to do online racing during that moment, I need it for my mental health :). That’s why you can easily imagine why I am asking for no tuning. I am a guy from Montreal, East Canada so I presume it will be NTSC.

So for me, it will be (Playstation clock) : 8:05PM, 8:35PM, 9.05PM next Tuesday (12 may) and Thursday (14 may) night.

So who’s in ?

I am open to any suggestion…
Sorry for my not-so-good-english...

Spec default tune on an F40 on N3s sounds like a deathtrap, so I'm interested and possibly in, I just don't yet know my next week schedule.

edit: suggestion, every 20 minutes rather than 30 minutes between start times.

Ever 20 minutes... the race is not longer than that. If it is enough, fine, we could do 3 start per hour.

Oh yes, I love deathtrap. :)

Damn...I was getting a tune especially made by Dragonistic so I can set up a race like this. It's a hard car to drive on N3s, but hopefully with a good tune, it will be a bit more fun while still challenging. I'll be driving an F40, but won't be competing in this (as I have a tune).

It would be cool to have a tune....it's not like it's going to be much easier - the driver still has to drive the car - I specified that when saying what I want in the tune

EDIT: Here's the original tune request if you like the sound of it. If you follow the thread, you can see how it takes shape - it'll be ready very soon.

Interesting. :)

Does the game say default tires for F40 are N3? Not S1?
Or will it even go 550pp with s1's? :dopey:

my freshy commisioned tune (thanks to Dragonistic) is fresh out of the oven and it is HOT.
Try it out and see if it will change you mind Nurburgring. If you follow the thread, I had the exact same idea as you but making it a one tune race.

👍

I am open minded, knowing that we have no choice but driving it with N3 tires :).

So for me, all the persons who will be interested in a race could do the exact same set upthan yours. The only thing that I would like everybody to apply in their set up will be no traction control. I know it is drastic, but it is realistic because as far as I know, traction control was not an option on the F40.

But would that set up be driver able with a controller and auto gears.

I just tried this and its more like a drifting challenge than a set up for racing, but I did manage to get into 3rd gear once down the back straight and did a time of 2'55'382.

Well I can pull a 2.28 with this car with stock 550PP setup, but I havn't tried my special tune yet  - but I'd say it would be faster.

Nurburgring - I, like everyone here races with every aid off usually accept ABS on 1.

Great time what setup was you using. 👍

Everything stock except the the tyres, power and weight allowing for 550PP legality. I should have said that it was after getting some draft off another car (although not much use consiering you're going to overtake anything with this car on the straights).

I am finding that I get much faster times in a race than in free mode (even when I'm nowhere near another car).

EDIT: I just realised this is for NTSC  - I'll show my self out.

As a cockpit guy, I never thought about that... I an understand you.

2:28 is not bad at all..

I clearly doubt that everyone is driving with no traction control...

I dont mind having a go at most things, but as I'm disabled, with what they term as servere inflamitory arthritis in my hands and feet, like some of our other members who are also disabled with one thing or another. I do have to make use of TC and sometimes other options, just to keep the car on the track, never mind being competitive, I only use auto gears so your setup was not much use to me, but I did have a go at it.

Just not driver able for me sorry :grumpy:

A nice standard tune and the ability to use one or to Aids and I'm game, not that I'll be able to chase the fast boys but good fun trying.

Most people don't use TCS at all, believe it or not.
As a controller user, I'll try to try this tonight.
I just want to believe you.

I perfectly understant the situation you're living. I am completely respectful with a disabled person who continue to do his best and make a lot of efforts comparing to me (that is in good shape and has the chance to still be able to use a wheel). So congratulations to you and dont worry, I will say nothing if you need some electronic help to be able to have fun... so you're always welcome in this kind of event, whatever the tuning you need.

I suggest to postpone the meet on thursday, as i think we need more time to decide which tune formula we will apply to this N3-F40 deathtrap... :)

I'm keen on this, although i can't compete directly, either wrong timezone or region, i'll post times i've run in free run mode to see how well i stack up.

Anyone thinking of using dragonistic's setup, i would advise against (sorry dragon) for the simple reason that nurburgring has said in his original post that you are to run NO ABS, and i think that setup of dragons will have you off the road at turn 1. Either that or serverly locked up for most of the lap.

well you don't have to use the tune because I've made almost the same race but for the PAL timezone - and the tune of course

I just tried a little bit of this deathtrap combo. I definitively need a lot more practice before being not even a good driver. So it is for sure not tomorrow that I will be racing this ''car''.

I am thinking of going back to a more modest formula, like Mazda RX7 with N3 tires and original setup, ABS to 1, minimum weight and like hmmm... ... 350HP (if it does not exceed 550PP). I think it would be a fun and more realistic formula.

What do you think about that ?
