Bad TV settings, or bad TV?

I just bought a 50" Samsung 240Hz (actually 120, per reviews I read) LED TV and I'm having a bit of an issue with it. I've tried 3 different picture settings so far, and changed out the HDMI cable with no luck. Basically what is happening, is that when something on screen moves quickly, that object gets a weird pixelated look around it. Say, someone is running across the screen, they will be outlined in large pixels, like the TV is having trouble keeping up with fast moving objects.

Any ideas?

That sounds like a faulty TV. A modern LED TV with a high refresh rate should not do that. My 5 year old LCD TV doesn't even do that, and it sucks!

Have you tried changing the Motion Plus settings? Motion interpolation is a load of rubbish, and for gaming will add lag, for movies it will make them look like home video. Both games and movies might acquire imperfections like you've noted.

Also, without knowing what you're sending it, we won't know if compression or low resolution could be factors. Over-sharpening will tend to make imperfections all the more obvious as well.

@DQuaN The tv would not have a high refresh rate. 60Hz is as good as it gets for now unfortunately. Well there is one tv with native 120Hz, but it's not a Samsung.

Make sure of a good source, too. Commercial TV stations may be using a very high compression and deliver artifacts like that as part of their program! Find something live on ESPN, or feed it a Bluray movie.
