Okay, who else in GTP likes this SPORT. It's my most favorite sport to play, although I don't play anymore. American networks never air badminton matches during the summer Olympics for some reason--maybe because they've never won. I used to play for my high school (yes, there are badminton teams AND clubs in America for those who don't know). It's the best ever. Fast, and slow, and tricky (you can get really fancy with drops).

Anybody want to play sometime?

i play it in gym class, it's fun. not as fun as bowling, though.

Meh, insert something cool here. I hate double posts.

Instead of wasting this bandwidth, I'll post this image.

Pickleball? I don't even want to know what goes on in your school.

Badminton is a decent game. Smashing shuttlecock does get boring though. Saying shuttlecock nevers wears thin, on the other hand.

i coulcve played pickleball, but decided to keep playing badmitton instead.

I loved playing it in my high school, and so did a bunch of other guys. My tennis coach was thinking of making a team, but there was nobody to play, within a reasonable amount of distance from our school. I bought a cheap set of the game so I could play at home. Every time I would dink one over the net, and I was good at dinking, a family member, friend or neighbor whined, "That's no fair" and would quite right there on the spot. I haven't played it since.

DUDE! I just joined a badminton club that plays every Wednesday at my old elementary school. It's even hosted by some Asian club, so I'm basically the only guy there who speaks passable English. It sucks not being able to express very well what's going on in the game, though.

Sore losers suck balls, Solid.

Is there really a noticeable difference between a backyard set racquet and on that you pay 25 bucks for? It seems like the crappy one I use is handicapping me. Everyone can smash the birdie about 17 times harder than me. Or maybe I'm just weak.

I played badminton for my university.

My favourite trick is to go in extremely aggressively, but just tag the '**** (wahey!) so it dribbles (wahey!) over the net. I also like to annoy people by playing both-handed and playing serves right onto the midline of the court so that they sometimes leave it ('cos they think it's going out).

I bought a nice new Yonex racquet last year, but I don't get chance to play much these days :(

*Apparently '**** isn't an acceptable abbreviation of "shuttlecock"...

I played it once in P.E. because it was raining out side so we couldn't play touch football. It was alright, but I wasn't too good at serving.

The only difference I've noticed was that on the cheapo ones, sometimes the birdie will actually stick into the racquet.

That's what I said I liked to do. I, we, called it Dinking. We, I, called it that because of the slight "dink" sound the racket made when you lightly hit the shuttlecock.

Dinking is fine - but it's funnier when you run screaming into the net, racquet cocked for a long-court smash... :D

I love to play badminton, but I would suck because I haven't played for 5 years since taking it for GCSE. It would be great to get out on the court and play .

I love Badminton. I love to run. You can call me Forrest Gump  But yeah Badminton is exellent for people who like to run and run and run. Same with Squash. I love that game too. Soccer beats all sports though

Please tell me you're meaning like 10 Pin Bowling and not get into your Tidy-whities. Go down to the local Greens and mingle with old people type Bowls?

Soccer?you mean football. As American's call footie soccer, you could be from the USA. But to say soccer beats all sports means you are NOT an American. I am very puzzled.

I reckon Soccer is better. Saying I'm a Football player sounds like ****e when saying I'm a Soccer player. Soccer sounds better.

I'm a Kiwi man. I'm a Kiwi. Which you'd probably think that I'd like Rugby more. No? I can't stand that game. Guys manhandling each other. I think not.

I can beat a lot of people in my school at Badminton. I should do the championship next year. Despite that. I can't play Tennis. A Donkey would be better than me.

It took 7 months before someone replied to my original post of this thread. I leave it alone for over a year and then I see it's still alive.

I like badminton. BTW, Badminton was aired on US television networks during the 2004 Summer Olympics. I watched it.

I watched that too. And the Tennis Channel showed some of the world championships a while back--I don't have that channel anymore. :(

Actually, like cobb said, cheapo ones do get birds stuck in them because they're so loosely strung. I have an HL myself, over $50 i think. Could've been $80, I'm not sure. It's sad that I haven't used it in forever. Maybe next quarter I can play again at the school's rec center (UCR).

I hope it's owkey for me to bump this thread because I play badminton myself. I'd like to know, how many of you here left are still playing this sport?

And what racquet do you have?

i love playing it, but dont like watching it

Same here, but that goes for anything sport as it's better to play it than watch it.

I remember playing badminton with a girlfriend in high school who was short as, but still managed to wipe the floor with me :sly:

Good times.
