Welcome to BotB!

The rules are as follows:
Each week two pieces of music will be selected following a theme. You vote for the piece you like the best. In voting, try to make your decision based on how well the piece is performed, the content and the level of work that went into it. Do not vote purely on the basis of a good video or because one band has a particularly better history or whatever. You're comparing two songs and that's it. The poll will be open for a week following the announcement of the contenders. Enjoy.
To kick things off with this being week 1 we have two bands who have had a fair amount of success with their works being used in popular movies. I present to you Guns & Roses Vs Iron Maiden!
Here we have a well known anthem used in several of the Terminator movies and another from Bad Boys from 1983...that's, like, before Jesus was even born or whatever...!

Iron Maiden definitely. Though I was always a fan of Bruce's voice over Pauls, Prodigal Son has one of the best guitar solos ever recorded in it, at least my opinion.

Guns N' Roses is one of my favorite bands and I look at Appetite for Destruction as the greatest rock album of all-time. On the other hand, I never liked Iron Maiden at all. A friend convinced me to go to either their Somewhere in Time or 7th Son show (don't remember which) in East Rutherford, NJ... I was bored to death and wanted to just go home, but I couldn't leave my friend, as I drove us like 70-miles to the show. Anyway, G N' R gets my vote.

It's GnR, if only because they are so rock n roll that they made white bicycle shorts rock n roll.

You could be mine.

I chose Maiden because I prefer it more than the way over played GNR tune... having said that, wouldn't it better to showcase 2 songs that are of the same energy level? Just a suggestion, but I do like the basic idea of the thread.

Cheers

Yeah, Run To The Hills might have been spot on actually.

Not too interested in either song. The most exciting thing about You Could Be Mine is that the quote lifted from the Appetite For Destruction sleeve transports me right the back there - "With your bitch slap rappin' and your cocaine tongue you get nothin' done".

I give it to Maiden purely for the guitar lead.

Guns N Roses wins this for me.

Everytime this comes on my iPod in the Capri, on go the aviators, down go the windows, up goes the volume and speed.

Iron Maiden has been far more consistent than GNR, and have done it for an extra 10 years. GNR now is just Axl and Friends play Guns N' Roses songs. Iron Maiden now is, the same members we had in 1983, playing material they have released over the last 30 years (who still release albums where they are just as good as ever). And the guys of Iron Maiden actually seem like generally nice people too. Guns N' Roses members... Not so much, though that's probably just Axl.

Iron Maiden is fields ahead of GNR, charging further on Eddie's back through fields of awesomeness.

Ah, fair point. I didn't read that. Maybe I should have... Erm, oops. I still prefer Iron Maiden's song, so I guess I'm not completely in an awkward position.

Prodigal son is a grea tune but its not anywhere near there best material or their most famous lineup. That's a really soft son for them and entirely different from their main style.
