Beater or Sleeper? GT6 Car of the Week Thread

The funny thing is, on the track, the C63 isn't that much quicker than the E55. At Mid-Field, the difference I got was less than half a second.

I would agree with you as well... I think the only good race I had that night was at Ascari, where I had quite the fun battle with Monty, aka @Soyuz 77, which I thought was a bit on the strange side considering the C63 is about 200 kg's less.

Cheers

Verdict: Beater. It is insanely slow when compared to other cars around the 500 PP range. In the Tokyo time trial test, the RGT and M3 CSL absolutely smoked the E55. In the Monza seasonal, I came in second competing against the AI. Should you buy it? No. There are a lot better options to choose from with that kind of money.

Congratulations All Your Base!
You've won this week's selection, what'll it be?

I would like to nominate the...

It's the 2001 Mazda RX-7 Type R Bathurst R (FD)!!!

Gotta have an RX-7 in BoS.

I'm surprised that we haven't before now. Great choice. And yes I know the one pictured isn't the exact same year and model, it's better. So shut up!

Well I don't know if there's a conspiracy or what, but you guys keep picking cars I haven't tested yet at Mid-Field :sly:

Both Dom (Vin Diesel) and Han (Sung Kang) would be proud of this weeks' pick, as they drove RX-7's in the Fast & Furious series.

In GT6, the Bathurst comes in your choice of three colors: Sunburst Yellow, Innocent Blue Mica, and Pure White. Personally, I don't care for the shade of blue...

What separates this Bathurst edition from other RX-7's are its self-leveling shocks.

After about 20 attempts around Mid-Field, including ~12 restarts, here is my best lap time:

^ Top speed 140 mph.

Cars within +/- 0.500 seconds:

1:21.731 - 485 - BMW Z8 '01

1:22.687 - 475 - Tommykaira ZZ-S '00
1:22.710 - 478 - Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII RS '03

The RX-7 Spirit R '02 is only 0.001 seconds slower

I wouldn't quite call the RX-7 a sleeper based on how it looks, but the fact that it's got a rotary and squeezes almost 300 horses from 1,300 cc's (over 200 hp/L) makes it a winner to me. It also has excellent handling. Oversteer is easily controllable and doesn't happen often unless you're really trying. This car is a sweetheart.

I leave you guys for a couple of weeks and looks what you have done?!

Not only have you gotten back to the Japanese car, but the picture you decide to post is the least appropriate pic:
- a fake one
- one from another car game

This RX-7 has so many photos of classy ladies on the internet. It's the Pimp of cars !

Can't i leave you all unsupervised ??!

I tested the RX7 whether to see it was beater or sleeper. This test is where I compare it to two other cars within it's PP range on Tokyo R246 to see where the victim ends up.

Tokyo R246 Time Trial Test:
For this test, I decided to pit the RX7 against t the Honda NSX Type R '92 and the Nissan Fairlady Z '08 . I run DS3 with manual transmission, sports hards, 2 TCS, ABS 1, and nothing else. Let's take a look at each of the cars stats before I test the cars. *Spoilers* all three beat the E55 in the Tokyo time trial test.

Mazda RX-7 Type R Bathurst R (FD) '01
PP: 462
Displacement: 654x2 cc
Power: 289 HP
Torque: 243.0 ft-lb
Drivetrain: FR
Aspiration: T
Weight: 1,260 kg

Honda NSX Type R '92
PP: 463
Displacement: 2,977 cc
Power: 284 HP
Torque: 225.6 ft-lb
Drivetrain: MR
Aspiration: NA
Weight: 1,230 kg

Nissan Fairlady Z (Z34) '08
PP: 461
Displacement: 3,696 cc
Power: 331 HP
Torque: 269.3 ft-lb
Drivetrain: FR
Aspiration: NA
Weight: 1,530 kg

Starting out with the RX-7. It handles like a dream, with it's oversteer very easy to control. It felt like I was zooming along the track while driving it. It's brakes, unlike last week's atrocity, was very good. This car is a great multipurpose tool, good for racing, drifting, dragging, cruising, etc. You name it, this car can do it.

On to the NSX. It is a great car, but it does take quite a bit of practice to control the oversteer. If you can, however, this car is a rocket. It will keep up with anything even into the 490 PP range. This car is an awesome car for those who can handle this beloved beast.

The Z34 has some understeer despite being FR, but it's a pretty decent car. This car was about a second or two behind the other two, but if finely tuned, it is really good. This too is a pretty good multipurpose car, just not as good as the RX7.

Lap times:
NSX Type R '92: 1:58.333
RX-7 Type R Bathurst R (FD) '01: 1:59.441
Fairlady Z (Z34) '08: 2:00.324

Verdict: I wouldn't call it a sleeper, as it is an RX7, but it definently is not a beater. It can keep up with anything (even the multitude of NSXs) within its PP range. The numbers don't lie. Is it worth it? Yes. It is a great multipurpose car. You name it, it can do it, and it can do it right.

I see your 1:59.441, and raise you a 1:56.521.

Here are the other vids from last week. Enjoy.

Lag Crashes Tokyo High Hopes!!!

I was enjoying a decent lead when all of a sudden, from out of nowhere...

I knew I got hit... smoked right out of contention, but I can't blame the driver because watching the video replay told the real story. It was lag pure and simple. Thanks Ted!

Cheers

Yeah I was wondering what happened there in that race because on my screen I saw you suddenly turn right and I ran into you. I'm not sure after I disconnected last night if I was having a lot of lag problems or if it was the servers. With every race everything appeared fine but with special route and Tokyo there seemed to have been some lag spikes. We can all blame it on Ted. lol

@Racer283 , you're one of those people I have absolutely NO issues with as I've noticed you're one of the good clean racers, and I've raced with you enough to know it.

On my replay, it showed when we were approaching turn 1, you were behind me, then suddenly you slammed into the tire wall, did a 360, jumped a few car lengths in an instant, and you were in your second jump just before I snapped that first photo. When I first felt and heard any impact at all, we were down on the straight before turn 2. It was a doozy too, cause all of a sudden I had red lights for 3 tires, and the engine brightly flashing.

You weren't the only one lagging either, as I saw both in front of me and behind me in multiple races people zipping around in multiple directions that would make the SRT X VGT look slow.

Cheers

Is it just me or is that green RX7 semi-premium :odd:

What makes things hard to judge concerning "semi-premium" is that custom wheels are premium or very close. In my opinion, I consider semi-premium cars to be standard exteriors with premium interiors as seen with a number of open cockpit LMP race cars. I say in my opinion because I don't know the true definition tbh.

Cheers
