Jalopnik found an Audi A4 painted in bed liner...

Ok, so maybe it's a little dumb on an Audi, but it might be pretty awesome on a pickup truck. You wouldn't have to worry about dings and dents that much and it'd be easy to wash with a pressure washer.

Obviously bed liner is a paint used in the cargo area of pick up trucks and such, but how does it differ to normal paint? All the pick ups I've seen seem to have a plastic board for the floor of the bed.

Good idea. I've seen some guys doing that on Broncos with Rhino Liner.

Needless to say, they now can hit anything and take no damage

Roo: A spray on bedliner is a tough, thick, sandpaper feeling paint that when applied right is put on nice and thick over the existing interior of the bed. Plastic bed liners just drop in basically, no need to paint, and I believe they are cheaper too.

Is that like that crackle-finish paint or something?

There's a reason it's called bedliner paint.

Not hot.

Ah, thanks. Probably not so good for the looks of an Audi, although I know a few people who could probably do with their cars painted in it.

Truckbed= Yes
Undercarriage of a vehicle used for offroading= Yes
Exterior paint of Audi(Or any car for that matter)= Just plain wrong.

You wouldn't have to worry about door dings .

Do I like it? Nah not really my style but if someone else wants to rock it I'm all for it since it's at least different.

Yeah, it's fine to do that on a truck, especially one that sees a bunch of off road duty. But only up as far as the lower trim pieces. It stops little branches, rocks and mud from scratching your lower doors and what not. Though it is a case by case sort of thing. And the guy with that Audi better hope that never fades, because that is the last "paint" that will ever be applied to that car. I bet it's thick as or thicker than a coin.

Maybe he got tired of ex-girlfriends keying his car

Like this!

Looks pretty stock, just more durable.

Woo, only one that likes it.

I voted hot, it's different and it isn't bright and flashy so I like it. I love cars in matte paint, so why not love a bumpy matte painted car? I think I'd paint the wheels black though, the grey and tan isn't really the best color combo on and Audi, or any car.

Holding out for the possibility of hot... but not in that color. Quite frankly, as our water is hard as nails and the entire front end of my car is peppered in rock chips from driving fast over roads covered in grit and gravel... I can see the practicality of doing something like this. (On the average, my cars need a new paint job every two years due to the conditions... my current one has gone three without...)

I do like the idea of the stuff - as on that truck above - painted half way up the doors for protection. That's actually a pretty good idea. If I had a van or pickup I'd definitely consider using the stuff to protect the lower bits.

I'm surprised they just found that since that picture is pretty old. I think the guy with that Audi removed it all soon after putting it on.

If it fades, you just hit it with some Black Wow. Best stuff ever invented.

Paint a battered old Toyota Hilux or FJ with that in a shade of Olive Drab and you have a winning look IMO. On any other car, you've basically killed any chance of reselling it.

Disagree. I've seen other pictures of that Audi and it is actually covered in Win.

Though it is mostly a Jeep thing. If I was building a rough-duty offroader I would definitely spray the whole truck with that stuff.

For added hilarity, Google "herculiner" and "hootus". Possibly NSFW language. [edited to correct brand name in question]

IF I had a truck (pickup or SUV), I would for sure cover that thing in bedliner. No more worries about scratched paint, plus it looks bad-a$$!

Yeah, sorry, different brand. But that's the story I was referring to.
