Right I know there have been many other thread which have discussed this, but they've been just like 'yea the koencraptacula is the best car ever cos it can like, like do 0-594 in 3 seconds like...'
You get the message. So I was hoping on this occasion to do it properly.
First off we get nominations for cars which should be in for the running with decent and proper reasons for why it's the best car ever in the world. For example the first beatle. as it provided modes of transport for millions of people in the war and was generally a revolutionary car. Ok a lot better reasons than that, but I don't want people just putting forward yea this car was great because it was super fast. Sensible here people!!!!:)
Then after that we'll vote for the best nominations and I'll do a new thread with a poll with the final few and well get the best car ever :) . Well anyway that's my idea. So post suggestion people!!!
I'm not going to suggest one yet as the car I think is the best car of all time, I haven't got any particular reasons to support why I think it is the best car ever.

Nominated cars so far:
Mini-cooper - Loudmusic, for having such a long production run.
Nissan Skyline - Takumi Fujiwara & skylineGTR_guy, for be such an alround success. Instead of trying to copy another company's car, they simply went their own way. Be it at first, the very first skylines were very simple and plain, the later models turned into very high tech and quick cars which have some superb innovative dfesigns and ideas on.
Porsche 911/993 - Rumple and me - such a succesul and popular sports car that even though the modern one's are very expensive, some of the older ones can be cheap.
Ford Model T - Evo, um I think it just explains for itself ;) .
VW Beetle - Evo (pasrtially :p ) because the VW beatle was the greatest production of a single model ever, and it was a very cheap and reliable car.
Landrover Defender - Roo, for being virtually invincible, and loved the world over.
Willy's Jeep - Der Alta, used by the US army for a very long period of time. Again like the Landrover, was near invincible. One of the original off road vehicles.
Citroen DS - GTJugend, it was waayyy ahead of it's time, with many inovations which can still be seen around today.
Chevrolet Comaro - Miata, because it's generally an all round classic.
Chevy Corvette - Shob The Bob, because it was a classic which ash lasted the testiment of time.
Ford Mustang - GT4, Gil and moi. It's a classic, which I think everyone knows about and would love to own (well that's what I think anyway). Had a very long production run. One of the very first muscle cars.
AC Cobra - Gil, 'It was the best of British Coachwork and the best small block available at that time. Teamed together to make one of the most memorable, high-performance cars of all time.' I'm adding that it did dominate a lot of sports car and GT racing when it first appeared and for some years afterwards.
Lamboghuini (sp?) Countach - Ultrabeat, an all time classic, the ultimate pin up for a boys bedroom. A poster of it existed on virtually boys bedroom from when it first came out to now.
Nissan Maxima - Emad, for a generally all round great car, which has a good performance with an equally good price tag to match.
32 Ford - Cano, pinacle for hot rodding.
Audi Quattro - GilesGuthrie, it was the first CAR to have a desent 4x4 system with a 50-50 torque ditrabution to the front and rear wheels. It started a whole new eara of super cars, and changed rallying to what it is today.
3 series BMW - MMMPWR and , a small but very nible family saloon which spoorned a huge offspring of many more. Most noticably is the M3, which combines sheer performance with praticality.
Ferrari F40 - Famine, again like the countach it's a pin up super car of the 90's. It's was fantastic looking, and equally fast as well. It was the most pratical supercar out of it's day as well.

The last time this came around there were lots of votes cast for the original Mini Cooper. I'm going to go with that again this time. I believe the dominating factor was that it sustained twenty years (??) of production with little changes to the original design.

Second to that would be the McLaren F1. BAM!

Ok then that's a good start. So we have a nomination for the mini-cooper. Good reason as well, I'll go with it.:)

The original design for the Mini was penned by Sir Alec Issigonis in 1958 and it was in production until 2000. That makes 42 years of production - 5.5 million units...!

Nissan Skyline: the R32 sedan was undefeated for 3 straight years in group N (sedan racing). No other car has come close to that record.

It got kicked out of group A racing becasue other manufactures complained that it was "unbeatable"

Arguably the most advanced traction system in the world.

Capable of puting out Huge amounts of power and has awsome handling.

4 pasengers! lol Family car.

Has a long history and large list of accomplishments.

various skyline models have been built since 1957-2001 with everythign from sports cars to family sedans.

I believe I was the previous "most knowledgable" or something. I forget. My knowledge is fading.

How about the 787B for being the only rotary powered engine to win Le Mans? Or the Shelby Cobra for being the first American car to win Le Mans (first, second, and third I might add) and bump Ferrari out of the top spot.

skylineGTR_guy: Hmmmm....... good argument, though I don't think it will make the final. I'll allow it anyway :) .

Loudmusic: But this is the point I keep on trying to make. The Mazda 787B was one of the owrst cars in it's class. My dad went along that year, and the only reason why it ever one, was because all the other main teams which should of won dropped out. It just kept on going. Hell that's one great feat of engineering, but I wouldn't put it as the worlds greatest car ever. Though I do get the point you're making at skylineGTR_guy.
Though mentioning the AC Cobra, that was the car I thought about as nominating as the worlds greatest car myself, but couldn't think of a good enough argument to support it.

If you wan't a 10 page Essay I can do it :p I'm just busy right now. I'll add more later.

well i also think we should go by the average everyday person car. something that most people could afford or could have afford. cause no average car could out-match some of these exotic cars like the Mc-something or other. as far as performance i say mercedes, as far as long-life i say toyota. but im gonna go old fashioned and be the only one probably to say the 57 Chevy.

1. IN MY OPINION, it was the first true muscle car.
2. It was popular
3. good for anyuse: drivin around, racing
4. its stylish.

It's also the only Japanese car to win Le Mans.

It's too bad more people don't give this car the respect it deserves.

The 787B won the race, and thats that.

Porsche 993 Twin Turbo (1996)
The only reason why the Porsche 993 Twin Turbo instead of the classic 911 is because this is a flawless extension of the famed 911. At 400 horsepower and the ability to clock the 0-60 mph threshold in 3.6 seconds, the 993 will leave you drooling.

I say the first two generations of the Honda Civic CRX. They weren't a supercar, but they offered the best preformance you could get for their small price tag. They are the cars with the absolute best performance-to-price ratio. Plus, they're Hondas, so they're some of the most reliable cars ever made. Its a shame most of them are being wrecked by streetracers these days.

Ford Model T.
Why? Well, first of all, it revolutionized manufactuing for being the first mass produced car and introducing the idea of the assembly line to the world. Secondly, this manufactuing process made the Model T the first car that was affordable to the masses. The Model T was also a rugged and reliable machine for it's time, and could perform many tasks from city dwelling family car to farmhand. And like many good cars, it had a very long production run, from 1908 to 1927, producing 15,000,000 units. This is the second most cars of a single model ever built, only behind the Volkswagen Beetle. The Model T also made Ford the giant it still is today, and made Henry Ford one of the most influential people of the 20th century.

Best car ever? Hmm thats a tough one. I'd go with a Chevorlet/GMC CK trucks. They have been around forever and they are the best selling trucks as of now. The new ford will beat it this year but it's usally a toss up between those two. But the CK's are the most reliable hardest working trucks around, there next to invincible.

for me is the shelby cobra.
the reasons ?

beauty and perfomace and no to mention all the award won by it.

btw is the best selling car replica in the world.

but if you wanna talk about durability or long production car that crown belong to the VW beatle, those cars was made for last and last and last.

and is was on production up to this year on mexico (not sure but i think still on production on brazil)

i think it was the world most sell car ever made.

With such a tough choice (yeah....right :p) Ive gotta agree with Famine and Loudmusic!! Its so good, theyve been making it for over 40 years, beat everything in its class in racing and won the Monte Carlo 3 times strait!

:D

Now this is what I'm talking about people. I agree with all of you who have put a car forward, in the fact that all of those cars are good, but to make them the best cars in the world ever, you need something that's very very very special. Something that most people would know or recognise. I bet that a lot more people know about the model than the Honda CRX ;) .

Rumple: I'm not going to put the 993, because it's a derogative of the 911,. so I'm going to put that instead. I mean come on it's been going for 30 odd years now, and you can still see in most 911's and derogatives today, the resemblance they have to the very original 911's.

Monster 7: I'm not going to argue, as that's your opinion in the 787B. As I said before, it would of never won the race if it wasn't for the Mecedes encountering the problems on the Sunday, adn them being in the pit for so long ;) . Though I do agree, that the car must of been very good and special, even to last the 24 hours and win it.:)

The Land Rover Defender. It's been around since 1948, I believe. You can attach a 3 ton load to it and it'll pull it with ease. The British army have used it for years and never replaced it with anything else; they've never needed to. Keeps on going on and on and on without complaint. Very rarely gets stuck in anything. It's completely classless - everyone from celebritys to farmers use them. You can bounce around a field all day and drive home without worrying about bashing it up.

Willys Jeep.

The Army set forth a list of requirments for a military vehicle and solicited manufacturers to produce a prototype that met these requirements. Willys and Ford, following an extensive road test, both on the highway and off road, were awarded the contract to produce the vehicles for the Army. Willys, however, had to modify its design to meet the Army's spec's for vehicle weight, needing
to pare off 263 pounds, off of an already bare-bones vehicle. And, they had to do this with no sacrifice of either the strength or power. An engineer, Delmar B. "Barney" Roos, had worked on the Jeep project and with his patience, determination,
and resourcefullness, disassembled the vehicle. Every bolt, every bracket was analyzed. Surplus material was cut away wherever possible. Studs, screws, even cotter pins were shortened. The sizes of clamps, nuts, and washers were reduced. The heavy carbon steel frame was replaced by one made of lighter alloy. Lighter steel was employed for the body and fenders.

Finally, the task came down to weighing the paint. It was determined that one coat would have to suffice, for a second would have meant exceeding the weight limit. The final product did meet the Army's specified figure--2160 pounds--with just several ounces to spare.

The US military's "go to" vehicle for three major conflicts. It is also the original off road vehicle for enthusiasts.

That'd be my vote.

IMO, the greatest car ever is the Lambourghini Countach. Now there was a car to make your Granny need new underwear.

But it is everything the 911 is + more. Derogitive or not that is not the question. It is one fine car and I still say the 993.

Chevy Corvette. Started a new breed of cars and has continued to set the standard for the way sports cars should be. It has lasted 51 years in production, and has also had very successful racing periods (most notably the past few years). You gotta give props to an American company that takes on Ferrari and wins...consistently. There is also no other American car quite like it, and in the American market, the only rival that has come close (coming close) to beating it (performance streetwise) is the mustang. In a class of cars usually dominated by European exotics, the corvette has remained a high-performance, well priced car that Americans can be proud of.
