best car for 25,000 dollars or less?

I'd buy a clunker muscle car then build it into a street monster. Then I'd have 18k left to dump on anything else XD

A solid W123 Mercedes 300D. Reliable as a wood-burning stove, will manage nearly 30 MPG on the highway. Fantastic vehicle, really.

I know that this car probably comes in just a little bit over the $25,000 limit..

But the new Scion FR-S.

Sorry, I think that's about $26,000ish.. :( so other than that, I'd probably get an old Lancer evo IV and use my leftover money to turn it into a monster.

I might be a little biased, but you can find a really good 2004-07 STI for that kind of money. Easy.

My mate did exactly this. For 19K he got an '05, with some aftermarket turbo bits.

He punted it off a cliff, but still...

I'd get a 2000 335i, and try to make it into a sort of Street-legal Touring car. Strip it, get 4 Racing seats, sequential manual 'box, and try to coax 350 HP out of the engine. And then the obligatory BMW racing livery...

Very creative, nice idea

335i's didn't exist in 2000, though....

330i's did however, but you'd be a bit pressed to "coax" 350Hp out of its 228Bhp engine without some pricey engine mods.

Better yet, get a cheap 2000ish 323i and shoehorn in the E46 M3's Inline 6 and work from there.

Also slower and stinkier than snail piss.

They're pretty slow, but it's like the automotive equivalent of the tortoise and the hare story. The Merc will just go on, and on, and on, and on.

They're also the Mercedes everyone has in mind when people say "old Mercs are built like tanks". Was all downhill after the W123.

Volkswagen Phaeton 6.0 W12. It might be worse than what you pick in one ability, but it's better than it in every other one.

And the only thing you have to worry about on that thing is the vast insurance. Because the car itself will probably have depreciated to 10p.

New, I'd have a '13 Focus ST because per the reviews it's the best hot hatch America gets and from the few test drives I've had with one, I was really impressed. I'd have to have it in Tangerine Scream as well.

Used? $25k would buy my a really nice GMC Typhoon.

If that's under $25,000 then I'm sold!

Could use the engine name as a pickup line.

"Hey babe, this one doesn't have a lame old V8 like Johnny's car.

No. This one's got a W12."

I'm aware that the US used car market is a bit less friendly to used car buyers, but you can get a 2003 one for £12k - which is about $18k.

For fun I did an insurance quote.

I currently pay around £350pa for a 1998 BMW 523i SE Touring worth sod all.
The premium - from the same company but undiscounted - for the above 2003 VW Phaeton 6.0 W12 is...

£484.

I just cacked myself laughing.

2010-2012 KIA Forte..

You can get the 4 door starting at 15k and 2 door starting at 17k.

I had seen one that was fully loaded stick shift all the goodies for 23,700. Blue and black Uuuhhhh i wish I had that money then. I would have picked it up. They are fun.

A family member has the 2012 KIA Optima the model right before the turbocharged one. About 32k it was bought for. Great car no issues great handing and is luxurious and quite fast. All around great cars

Either buy something like that or buy a kit for a 1966 Shelby Cobra 427

An E39 BMW M5. A good condition one is right under $25k and it's probably still one of the most versatile cars out there.

McLaren
Take it a step further & shoot for the G37 if that's what you'd be after. Some very nice examples right under $25,000. 👍

That is true, my dad had one. Great car!
