what does everyone think is the best japanese car thats ever been made? i was thinking about this, and i'm guessing it would be the toyota corolla or honda civic since so many of them have been sold.

my personal favorite is (obviously) the fourth gen Supra, especially the 1994 model. even though its over a decade old i think it still looks and performs better than most modern cars. something about those rounded tail lights really draws my attention.

The Honda NSX is my personal favourite Japanese car. It was a Honda that could go toe-to-toe with Ferrari's and Porsche's. I'm not a badge snob, so I don't care about image. I would choose an NSX over the equivalent Ferrari anyday. :)

N14 Nissan Almera. In it's day only the Focus beat it for handling and I don't think anything has ever beat it on reliability. It's ugly as 🤬 but as a tool to get you to work/school/shops without fuss, C'est Magnifique.

A bit obvious from me, but I'd say the R32 GT-R. It revived the GT-R name. I will not die a happy man unless my gravestone can say, "[as if I'd tell you guys my real name ;)], owner of a Skyline GT-R."

The Nissan Z has been an icon for 40 years. There have been plenty of excellent contributions to society from various manufacturers from Japan, but to me i believe the Z has personified what a true "sports car" should be. Affordable, attractive and a blast to drive. It's just my opinion but the Z cars have always been awesome but now even more so that i have one.

The Honda NSX is up there, as is the Nissan GTR, but I'm gonna have to say the Mistubishi Lancer Evolution. Just about every generation was great in all aspects and its such a perfectly balanced car. Purely opinion though.

I agree. Although I'd say the same about the R 35. Amazing achievement in automotive history. This car [might] be remembered like the Ford Model T was/is (albeit for different purposes).

The Datsun/Nissan Z car no contest. It proved that the Japanese could be taken seriously for not only a sportscar but as a good quality product.

Err, Mazda MX-5?

^That

But how do you define "best"? I can easily argue that Toyota Land Crusier/Hilux trucks are some of the best Japanese cars ever, by virtue of being an extremely durable and useful vehicle for people who need access to remote places or who need to start an insurgency.

Exactly. Its horses for courses. It should probably read: favourite.

The NSX is arguably the best "exotic" car to ever come from Japan, mid-engined, sharp and very pretty.

The MX-5 is arguably the best driver's car to ever come from sunshine land, it's quick, desirable, cheap and fun to drive.

The Toyota Hilux is arguably the best utility car to ever come from Nihon, it's reliable, sturdy and will get you there no matter where you are.

I think it's a matter of necessity X opportunity, depending on your available cash, place where you live and age, you'll choose a different car, but I can't help but suspect it will be one of three I listed above.

Just like every "What Car?" thread, there is only one clear answer:

Or, the best Japanese car that people seem to forget about:
