Best car under 40k?

The Mach 1 is quite nice, and around 30k. Even though I own a mustang, there is definitely better out there for the price. WRX is a nice deal at around 22k. I already mentioned the EVO VIII which is nice around 30k. My dad has a G35 which is an absolute blast for around 27k. Quite frankly, if you want a mustang, get a Mach 1 or Cobra.

It really depends on your personal preferences and any specific needs you have, but here's my shortened list:
  • Nissan 350Z
  • Infiniti G35 Coupe/Sedan
  • Dodge SRT-4 (bargain!)
  • Subaru WRX STi
  • Lancer Evo VIII

I would have to say the 2003 mustang cobra. Nothing comes close in the bang for your buck category. excpet maybe the neon srt-4 but hey we got 40 grand why not use it all. For 2004 ford is issueing like 1000 mystik cobras  that come from the factory with the chrome illusion style color changing paint on the body the trim of the seats and the steering wheel. That comes in at I think 39K so get that.

I've seen Mystic Cobra's before, but i've never seen the color-changing paint on the seat-trim and steering wheel. Post a pic or link if you have one.

Mystic paint is cool, i guess. It's something different. I like the color-changing paint on TVR's, as well.

Is it just me, or does there seem to be an over abundance of Purple in the Mystic paint on cobras? Perhaps it's due to the angle most car photographs are taken.

This is the best car for under 40k

Plus it's another shameless attempt to put a picture of my car on here.

That would be a Volvo S80 T6 AWD, although I'm not entirely sure if it comes under 40,000.00 smackerooz.

I can name one Miata I once had that was under that price that probably would have spanked a cobra easily. A do it yourself is gonna give you the best bang for buck. A fully customized car like a cheap domestic car is the way to go. The current Iroc that is my new project has only cost me $3200 which includes a new 350 engine carbuerated of course, front suspension, rear suspension, and new steering column. for under 10 grand I should have up to if not more horsepower then the new Cobra.

1 - 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee TSi V8 4x4 (if you can find one - and you can't)
2 - 1993 Volkswagen Corrado SLC VR6
3 - 1996 Lexus LS400
4 - 2000 Ford Contour SE V6
5 - 2002 Subaru Legacy 2.5GT wagon (with the new wheels)

Best practical used buys ever, in order.

This list will be changed.

The S80 comes in AWD? Or do you mean the S60? And does the S60R fall under $40,000?

Toyota Supra Twin Turbo.. 1996 6-speed for preference. £12000 of your English pounds, $20000 of your US dollars for a well-kept 30,000 mile 1996 version.

It does right now. Maybe the 2004's are already out, it did get a vague re-design.

I'm going to spend the rest of the evening explaining why AWD is ">" to FF to my dad. Thanks, Dickinson. ;)

In 1996, only 4 speed automatics were available for the MKIV Supra TT.:P

Anyways... Not only is the Supra(well, certain ones at least) the best car under 40k, but it's the best car - ever.;)

That's odd. The 1996 I drove the other day was a 6-speed manual... This was a UK-sourced car, rather than a parallel or grey import though. I guess you're an American-market guy?

Glasses/Parkers say UK 1996 Supra - 4-speed automatic or 6-speed manual. It also says the UK-spec car has 326hp compared to 280hp for the grey import and larger front brakes than the Japanese car.

And I agree. Bestest car ever :D

I don't know about other countries, but, yes, America only got autos in '96. www.kbb.com shows only 4spds. I'm sure it says somewhere at mkiv.com too. I wouldn't doubt that you guys got manuals in '96 - we always get the shaft when it comes to imports.

I'm almost positive that the Supra's we got had 320hp, but maybe they tuned 'em down like they do to the Skylines, and other imports, so they'd meet our strict emmisions guidelines(or whatever it's called).:irked:

40 g's? hmm...
id just buy a gsxr 1000 (bike)
and save 30 grand for down payment on a '03 m3! :)
fine i guess id get a:
1: Subaru WRX STi
2: Rx8
3: G35 Coupe cuz i love coupes!
