What's the best car you think that's out there, purchasable for under 40,000 US dollars?

I can name one Miata I once had that was under that price that probably would have spanked a cobra easily. A do it yourself is gonna give you the best bang for buck. A fully customized car like a cheap domestic car is the way to go. The current Iroc that is my new project has only cost me $3200 which includes a new 350 engine carbuerated of course, front suspension, rear suspension, and new steering column. for under 10 grand I should have up to if not more horsepower then the new Cobra.Originally posted by agentlongwood
I would have to say the 2003 mustang cobra. Nothing comes close in the bang for your buck category.

That would be a Volvo S80 T6 AWD, although I'm not entirely sure if it comes under 40,000.00 smackerooz.

The S80 comes in AWD?
Or do you mean the S60?
And does the S60R fall under $40,000?

Yep. (Starting 2004, I should've mentioned that.)

It does right now. Maybe the 2004's are already out, it did get a vague re-design.

Toyota Supra Twin Turbo.. 1996 6-speed for preference. £12000 of your English pounds, $20000 of your US dollars for a well-kept 30,000 mile 1996 version.

That's odd. The 1996 I drove the other day was a 6-speed manual... This was a UK-sourced car, rather than a parallel or grey import though. I guess you're an American-market guy?
Glasses/Parkers say UK 1996 Supra - 4-speed automatic or 6-speed manual. It also says the UK-spec car has 326hp compared to 280hp for the grey import and larger front brakes than the Japanese car.
And I agree. Bestest car ever![]()
