Best Cars In Gr3 For Idiot Racers?

Hi all!

I am a D Class driver (Level 36) with a B safety rating, so basically, I'm fair but crap. I've tried a few cars in Gr3 Challenge and can't keep up. With the exceptions of Power, Weight and Transmission, I tend to leave everything else as is, simply because I don't know how to properly adjust springs, dampers, camber and the like. Obviously, I change tyres to best possible.

I tend to steer clear of online races, simply because I don't want to embarrass myself. I have tried the daily races, but never managed better than 4th. I tend stick to the offline races and I use my 911 dropped to N400 to make money. I usually win by about 10 secs on Blue Moon Bay.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Try using a stable Gr. 3, like the GTR or the Mustang. They're not the fastest, but they're pretty stable and user-friendly, so no need to tune as well.

Just go race at your own pace, mate. We all come and go through that phase
Presevere and you'll get better

Did you gold the Circuit experiences yet? I would do those if you havent.

Are you looking for advice to improve your Sport Mode ranks?

My advice would be to work up to GR.3 if you are having trouble with car control. Gr.3 IMO is the most challenging of the sport categories. They have alot of power and tend to spin easily and oversteer becomes an issue. Begin with the one makes or Gr.4 which are a little more difficult to destabilize and its more forgiving when you mash the throttle a bit more aggressively.

Practice, practice, practice... erhm.... i mean qualify qualify qualify. As you move up the ranks your starting position on the grid will have a major impact in your final results. ( to have a consistent shot at P1 you need to qualify near the top) This usually takes me 45min-60min before i enter my first daily race. Try to get near the top 10 list (within a few seconds from Top 10) and watch their replays for lessons on when to brake and how to address each corner.

winning isnt everything. Placing in the top half will usually give your DR a boost. so just enjoy your battles reagrdless of the place your a fighting for.

enjoy!

@bazeeky keep practicing. Took me a while to get comfortable with the gr.3 myself. Avoided all gr.3 races and instead focussed solely on the Gr4. Kept practicing there and won a few and once I was comfortable enough I started trying out the Gr3 cars. Keep trying different cars out till you find one that you can get comfortable with. And then keep practicing. Nowadays I mostly only race Gr3.

Technical tracks: 911 or AMG
Fast tracks: Mustang or Vette

I'd say M6 but that's a beast to handle and to get the most out of it you need quite a bit of practice.

Considering BoP (no tuning allowed), best Gr3 to start with with are 911, Beetle and WRX and maybe even the Corvette C7 (my most driven car).

Welcome btw!

I like the gr 3 Porsche a lot, but do agree on what the other guys said, just don't jump in a race, get a consistant drive in the quali in a car that suits you.

The gr 4 races are indeed a bit "easier" to drive, I notice when my sr gets f-up to c or d I tend to get in all the "demolitian derby" rooms. With the far more powerfull gr 3 cars thats mostly a guarantee for a f-up race expierence. I just love the gr4 mc laren and the toyota '86 is also very very stable and forgiving.

Maybe shameless promotion here, but joining the weekly time trial also helps a lot, you get good driving tips and a very cool race between all the participants (all fair, no divebombing, hindering etc). Its really a competition where you compete against other drivers worldwide, but at you're own capacity level.

Cheers everyone! I'll take onboard all your tips. I would rather get some more offline competitions before I head online though.

If your as you say crap. The best way to get learn is to do. If you don't have a go you won't win and never know how good you are.

May fave to drive is the lan evo gr3. Nice and stable on tc level 2

Good advice here.

I'd say Porsche for bendy tracks and Mustang for straight tracks.

Wish we could adjust just the final gear with fixed setups. Just a small change that would make a huge difference. If Polyphony is balancing the BoP using car win-rate data using fixed gear ratios it's kind of silly because you'll get a skewed dataset.

That's actually the first good compromise on the tune/no tune debate I've read

I don't mind having fixed setups, as long as PD takes it upon themselves to tune the cars individually and lock it. BoP can only go so far. Not saying it's bad though

I see quite a few people here recommending the Porsche. It's pretty stable and fast I agree, but I didn't include it in my recommendations because the rear tends to slip out when you're not careful with the gas. The Mustang and GTR does this as well but in a much more friendly manner, so it serves as introductory cars on how to modulate the throttle. That's my 2 cents on picking out what car OP might be comfy in :)

Do you really feel like the GTR is a stable car? Yes it can brake very late and is good going into corners. But half corner or going out of a corner you really have to be carefull with the trottle... i gotta say i use a DS4 and i think you are using a wheel, so that must feel a lot more stable. I've driven over 7000 km's with the GTR, but in my opinion it's one of the least stable cars coming out of a corner because it's just very twitchy and you have to be very gentle on the gas like it's ya grandma..:P

Sometimes i hop in the AMG GT and that just feels sooo much more stable, and i can go so much earlier on the gas.

Man i would like to know how it feels... i need a wheel!!!

Yeah, I'm using a wheel
Hmm, maybe it is a factor on how the car feels. But I do agree that the AMG is also a friendly car :)

Interesting, never thought the GT-R was a twitchy car, try the M6, FT-1 or F-Type, those cars would easily spin out coming out of a corner.

I have to agree with @meck_rb7 the Nissan GT-R GT3 is not that stable when using a controller.

@bazeeky the BMW M6 GT3 is a really great and easy drive and it's fast as well, Aston Martin GT3 is also a great drive, but a bit slow compared to the M6 GT3.

That's very interesting, because i think that both the M6 and the F-Type are very stable cars. Not like the AMG, but much more forgiving than the GT-R.

Cheers mate. Yeah I don’t understand why so much laptome disparity between cars should be taken out of the hands of the player by not unlocking the final gear to set based on track.

Like the mustang is a meta car right now for Monza solely because of it’s engine power and top end speed based on the gear ratios.

@dinno Meta, in this case, means best by some margin.
Thankfully it now seems to vary between tracks since the FF BoP rebalance. And on some tracks, 4-5 cars are sometimes represented in the top 10.

I have the Aston and Ferrari. The Ferrari is very difficult to drive using the DS4 even with a stability tune. The Aston on the other hand is fantastic out of the box.

I'll be trying a BMW next to see what the fuss is about

If you can control or barely master these two you should be easy off with the rest of the GT3 cars.

For beginners I'd recommend the Evo, it's the easiest to drive and decently competitive.

I find the AMG very easy to drive, has great traction but it's fast too.

Otherwise Viper, Aston, Alfa 4C are all reasonably easy too. M6, Ferrari are a little bit of a handful, lambo is just evil.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is a DS4?
